What’s in a Name?
Some names are created by accident:
  • Alabama Crimson Tide: Playing in a muddy, red clay field in 1908, the announcer said, “It was like a crimson tide had rolled in.”
  • Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets: Leading at half-time, the visitor stands were located over the Ole Miss locker room where the Georgia Tech students in their school uniforms (a yellow blazer) were making a racket. Legendary Ole Miss coach Johnny Vaught asked his players, “Do you hear those “yellow jackets” having a party at our house?”
Other names, like the International Society of Beverage Technologists and the Beverage Institute, were created to reflect a history and reputation for quality and expertise. Join the ISBT today!

  • Leadership: In 2015, former ISBT President Sally Potter began her role as the “Education Coordinator”. The title then changed to “Head of Education”, and later to “Director of Education”.
  • First Course: The Fundamentals of Beverage Technology was launched on October 10, 2017. The Beverage Institute now offers 9 courses, but the Fundamentals course remains the most popular and has received many endorsements for its overview of the industry.
