Message from the President
New ISBT Operating Model is Implemented!
During our Virtual Annual Business Meeting on June 4, we shared the high level changes ISBT is making to its structure. We also emphasized the expected benefits of those changes. I am very happy to report that our board has done excellent work in adapting to the new structure and new ways of working together. Thank you to Kevin Doyle and Michon Mitchell for leading the strategy development and implementation activities! Our vice presidents are in the process of transitioning responsibilities for specific activities and developing meaningful indicators that will help us manage our performance. The energy and commitment that they have demonstrated gives me tremendous confidence in ISBT’s future. The most impressive aspect so far has been the high number of ideas generated to reduce cost, increase review, and most importantly, provide additional value to our membership.
We are very focused on delivering high quality virtual meetings for BevTech Canada, BevTech Europe, and BevTech Latin America this fall, and we will be doing some technical webinars during the next several months as well. More information will follow in future issues of the ISBT Connection. We have also just completed the printing of our first Beverage Industry Resource Guide, and the feedback on the quality and value of this new member benefit has been excellent! If you have any questions or comments about the Resource Guide, please reach out to
Tim Hudson with DataKey
.
Though our members face many unique challenges at this time, ISBT is poised to weather this storm. I believe that our new operating model is going to help the Society deliver more value to its members at a time when that couldn’t be more important.
Sal Calandra
President, ISBT

Check Out the Updated Beverage Dispenser Cleaning Guidelines in English and Spanish!
One of the most valuable contributions of ISBT to its members and the beverage industry are peer-reviewed guidelines. The guidelines promote best practices and standardization so that the entire industry – and ultimately the consumers – will benefit from higher efficiency and better product quality and safety. One example of such a publication is the
Beverage Dispenser Cleaning Guidelines
published by the Retail Equipment & Fountain Technology Technical Committee. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we recently reviewed the guidelines and updated the Spanish language version so that it can benefit Spanish-speaking populations around the world. Both the English and Spanish versions can be accessed on the ISBT website on the
ISBT Manuals & Guidelines page
.
There is also a Sanitation for Fountain Beverages course that is part of the Beverage Institute by ISBT®. This course addresses the protocols and procedures that ensure the safe and high-quality delivery of fountain-dispensed ice and beverages consumed by millions of consumers globally. It allows for a better understanding of sanitizing solution options, beverage dispenser cleaning, ice container cleaning, flushing syrup lines, and proper materials handling. This course is normally $99 for non-members and $79 for ISBT members, but it’s available now for a special price of only $60 through July 3! Click the button below for more information.
