City of Hermosa Beach receives over $3 Million in in Prop 1 Storm Water Grant Program (Round 1) Funding
California Consulting is pleased to announce our client, City of Hermosa Beach, has been awarded $3,099,400 for the Prop 1 Storm Water Grant Program (Round 1).
The city will use the grant monies to engineer, plan, and design an infiltration system at two possible sites. The project will be designed to capture and store storm water, urban runoff, and reduce the amount of polluted water draining to the beach. The positive impact on Hermosa Beach's community will include reducing beach closure days, groundwater recharge, and mitigating sea level rise impacts.
California Consulting Project Manager, David Marquez, stated: "California Consulting and the City team worked closely to bring this to a successful conclusion. This is a much needed award for a deserving project."

Whittier City School District Renews Contract
The Whittier City School District Board recently agreed unanimously to renew their grants services contract with California Consulting, LLC.
Since 2012, California Consulting has been successfully providing grant services and to date has captured nearly $4.8 million for the District. These grant awards ranged from a $3,745 Lowe's ToolBox for Education Grant to a $1.5 million California State Math and Science Partnership (CaMSP) grant, which have helped the District to provide early intervention, community learning centers, multiple math and science programs, an art program and technology access.
California Consulting Senior Director Allison Richards commented on the announcement, "Through our partnership with the Whittier City School District, we have been able to help the District's teachers, students, and community gain additional resources. We are proud of the grants won and the fact that they are so valuable to the continued expansion of learning opportunities."

US Department of Justice: Smart Prosecution Initiative FY 2017 Competitive Grant

Match: None required, but voluntary contributions are encouraged
Eligibility: state and local prosecutorial agencies, federally recognized Indian tribal governments that perform prosecutorial functions, or governmental non-prosecutorial agencies acting as a fiscal agent for one of the previous applicant types
This program seeks to build
upon analysis-driven, promising practices and evidence-based prosecution by encouraging state, local, and tribal prosecutorial agencies to develop effective, economical, and innovative responses to crime within their jurisdiction. BJA's "Smart Suite" of programs invest in the development of practitioner-researcher partnerships that use data, evidence, and innovation to create strategies and interventions that are effective and economical. This data-driven approach enables jurisdictions to understand the full nature and extent of the crime challenges they are facing and to target resources to the highest priorities. The Smart Suite of programs, which includes the Smart Prosecution Initiative, represents a strategic approach that brings more "science" into criminal justice operations by leveraging innovative applications of analysis, technology, and evidence-based practices with the goal of improving performance and effectiveness while containing costs.

 California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS): FY 2018 Grants

OTS grant funding now available for FY 2018. This funding consists of ten specific grant opportunities that are described below. Please review the OTS grants webpage for further details.
1) Alcohol Impaired Driving Grants: These programs aim to prevent people from driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol or other drugs and to remove DUI drivers from the road. OTS grants use a comprehensive approach by funding educational, prevention, and enforcement programs and by focusing on high-risk groups.
2) Distracted Driving Grants: OTS and CHP co-lead the Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) Distracted Driving Challenge Area by developing action items to reduce this problem. Countermeasures funded include increased and focused enforcement, observational surveys, and public awareness campaigns, while other actions are being developed to change behavior.
3) Drug Impaired Driving Grants: Funding to decrease the average response time for the arrival of appropriate equipment at collision sites in rural areas. OTS grants have provide for increased officer training in the NHTSA Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) and Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE) programs, which lead to better detection of drug-impaired drivers. OTS grants also fund vertical prosecution programs for drug-impaired driving cases.
4) Emergency Medical Services Grants: OTS provides funds for cost-effective programs that incorporate effective strategies for improving California's EMS system's ability to meet the needs of motor vehicle collision victims. OTS-funded programs provide life-saving equipment, training, reliable ambulance transportation, effective communications, public information, education, and access to data and evaluation tools.

Sergio Sanchez- Associate- Central Coast
Sergio Sanchez is the California Consulting LLC Associate for the
Central Coast. Sergio began his career in public service in November 2002 when he was first elected to serve as a member of the Salinas City
Council. Sergio was elected to represent District 1, one of the most diverse and densely populated districts in the Nation. He was re-elected to two additional 4 -year terms, November 2004 and November 2008.
Prior to being elected, Sergio served as a Committee Member for the Redistricting Committees for the City of Salinas, County of Monterey and the Salinas Union High School District and as a Commissioner of the County of Monterey Equal Opportunity Advisory Commission.
As a political consultant, Sergio has managed or assisted the
campaigns for Former Monterey County Supervisors Jerry Smith, Lou Calcagno, Assemblymember Luis Alejo and Senator Anthony Cannella. Sergio has also worked on various local ballot measures including Measure Q (Natividad Medical Center Sales Tax) Measure K (City of Salinas Public Safety Sales Tax)
From December 2010 through February 2013, Sergio Sanchez worked as District Director for Assemblymember Luis A. Alejo California State Assembly representative for 30th Assembly District.

Section 79723 of Prop 1 allocates $260 million to the Clean Water

The State Water Board has an
