Port O'Connor Toy Run
We would like to thank each and every person and company that generously helped the Club donate over $3,000 in toys to the Port O'Connor Toy Run! The toys donated were delivered to Port O'Connor last Saturday. They will be distributed to children along the coast who may not have had a positively memorable Christmas without the incredible donations. We thank you again for your generosity and taking part in such a special event!

Captain's Corner
Written by Captain Kevin Deerman
We've finally had a few good cold fronts push through this month and it's actually starting to feel like hunting season in Texas. There have been reports of more mourning dove and ducks moving in from the north now and I am hopeful for a great second split of our season. There have also been a number of boats that have taken advantage of the weather and were able to get into some good tuna fishing action at the deep water rigs the past couple of weeks. Wahoo season is also coming up soon and we are hoping for a good bite this year as well as some good weather to get there.

The Learning Curve
Written by Captain Troy Day
Six of the past ten years, looking back over my logbook, I've gotten out in December and had the best tuna trip of the entire season. Now that we're finally getting some cold fronts that are then creating weather windows, a few are getting out and the yellowfin bite is good, but I think it will get even better as we go to Christmas.
A connection needed a lot in tuna fishing is braid to fluorocarbon, of which there are 2 that test out near 100%: the PR knot and the FG knot. Both depend on friction to hold the slippery but sharp braid onto the leader. The PR knot in my experience is very difficult to tie and requires a specific tool, while the FG knot can be tied on a boat in a couple minutes at most and is slim enough to cast through the guides. Check out this well-done video of the knot:
