Charles River Wind Ensemble

Looming in the Dark

Charles River Wind Ensemble begins its 2023 season with the program "Looming in the Dark." As the title suggests, the concert will feature introspective and melancholy works including: "Out of the Darkness" by Adam Gorb, "Ghost Train" by Eric Whitacre, and "Hell and Heaven" by Oscar Navarro.

The Charles River Wind Ensemble is the premiere community wind ensemble of the Greater Boston metropolitan area dedicated to the performance of classical and contemporary repertoire originally conceived for winds and percussion.

"Looming in the Dark" will be presented at the 300 Hammond Pond Parkway Auditorium on Sunday, October 29th at 3:00 PM. Free admission and parking is provided. More information here.

Charles River Wind Ensemble is an NCP fall 2023 Micro Grant recipient.

Volunteer & Donor Spotlight:

Janet Porcaro

My name is Janet Porcaro, and I am a Newton Realtor®, grandmother, and a volunteer Board Member for Newton Community Pride. Over the years, I have watched NCP serve our Newton community by offering live music performances, public art funds, garden displays, numerous grants, and scholarships for local artists.

  • The Celebrate Newton Banners dotted throughout the Villages not only beautify our city but also serve to visually represent the cultural diversity present in Newton.
  • In January 2024, the 3rd annual WinterFEST, will allow us to celebrate with live music, fun activities, great local food, and ice art. We will dress up warm and appreciate the joy that can be found on a winter day in New England.

These are just some examples of the great things NCP has achieved and will continue to achieve with our support.

During these difficult times, little things like a lovely performance or a beautiful flowering garden can lift our spirits. These joyful moments are part of the essence of a meaningful life. I support Newton Community Pride for their continued efforts to present opportunities for our community to come together and celebrate the good things in life.

Warmly,

Janet

P.S. Consider joining me at an extraordinary fundraising experience with the Meet the Maestro event on November 8. See Keith Lockhart up close and personal! And your ticket will come with a raffle entry for an Orchestra Table for 5 at the Boston Pops in December! What a grand winter celebration that will be!
