Grand Island Hosts SkillsUSA | |
An estimated 1,600 high school and college students filled the Fonner Park campus April 11-13 for the SkillsUSA-Nebraska state competition. This annual event recognizes students from across the state through technical skill competitions.
In addition to showcasing their skills, participants are able to connect with business leaders, as they compete for the chance to represent Nebraska at the SkillsUSA national competition. The Grand Island Chamber is actively involved in SkillsUSA, with Courtney Glock serving on the steering committee and helping to facilitate events within the leadership cluster, which includes action skills; extemporaneous speaking; job Interviews; job skill demonstration; prepared speech; and the quiz bowl.

Hornady Presents $750K Donation to CCC | |
The Central Community College Foundation has announced a $750,000 donation from Hornady Manufacturing. The donation was given as a special project to celebrate the company’s 75th year in business. The fund will support criminal justice program scholarships and grants to enhance the student experience.
The crime house at CCC-Grand Island will be known as the Hornady Crime House. An official naming ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at the facility. Tours will be available starting at 4 p.m. The celebration will continue with the Chamber's business after-hours event at Riverside Golf Club at 5 p.m. Read more.

Work Begins on US-30, West of GI | |
At last check, work was set to begin today, April 15, on US-30, west of Grand Island, from mile marker 308.84 to mile marker 312.55. This is a key infrastructure project for economic development that directly impacts Cornhusker Industrial Park.
The highway will be realigned as a new four-lane divided urban highway section is to be constructed. Anticipated completion is June 2026. Read the announcement by the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

Survivorship 101: Cancer Rehab Program
CHI Health's free cancer rehabilitation program helps survivors regain their physical, emotional, and spiritual health after treatment.
Cancer Survivorship 101, facilitated by specially-trained nurses and mental health practitioners, is a 9-week holistic program starting in March at Good Samaritan and St. Francis. Weekly sessions offer practical guidance for the next steps after treatment, including research-based advice on topics like nutrition, exercise, coping skills, and healing. The small, supportive group setting provides opportunities to ask questions and share insights.
