Chamber Breakfast Hosted by the Downtown Council: Startups | |
The focus of this morning's Chamber Breakfast was Startups! The three panelists, Julia Lucidi, Jaap Donath, Ph.D., and Matthew Schnur, Research & Innovation Manager for FTL DDA, represented as leaders in the industry and gave their expertise on the startup ecosystem that is rapidly growing the Greater Fort Lauderdale area.
"I think Innovation and entrepreneurship are two different things. You can be an entrepreneur for a small business or a startup. There are different ways you can pursue entrepreneurship. I think it's a teachable skill. It's a hard route to pursue. You need to be very resourceful and be a confident person to pursue the route of entrepreneurship. Corporations have innovation departments. That's something that's a skill and I don't think all entrepreneurship requires innovation," said Julia Lucidi of Tactics & Fort Lauderdale Tech Meetup, in response to the question: "Is innovation a teachable skill or a mindset?"
Jaap Donath, Ph.D., Assistant Executive Director, Programs at NSU, also chimed in on the topic of innovation and explained how innovation challenges can be implemented, "Corporations have 2 or 3 painpoints and are looking for startups that can figure out the solution. That way they can provide corporations with solutions to problems that they may not have the department to solve or shorten the distance to getting it done."
Thank you to our speakers & Elizabeth Van Zandt for providing invaluable information to our members!
