Chamber Board Greenlights Workforce Housing Study, Preps for Mayor's Breakfast

The Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors gathered for their monthly meeting on May 30th at ArtServe. The agenda covered key updates including the graduation of Leadership Fort Lauderdale Class XXX, a report from the recent Washington Summit, and the Chamber's financial standing.

Board members received details on upcoming initiatives like the new website and membership platform launch. The Women's Council, Membership Council, Council of Economic Advisors, and Government Affairs Council provided reports.

A motion was passed to study the impact of regulatory barriers to workforce housing in the area. President & CEO Dan Lindblade shared priorities for the Chamber, highlighting the upcoming Tri-Regional Mayor's Breakfast and Big Ideas event on June 25th at the Coral Ridge Yacht Club. The meeting also welcomed a new employee, Ariadna Wood, to the Chamber team.

Rising Leaders Mixer Connects Broward's Young Professionals

The Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber's Rising Leaders Council brought together over 80 of Broward County's emerging business leaders at their May mixer, last week, held at Here & Now. The event provided a vibrant networking opportunity for this group of young professionals.

The Rising Leaders Council focuses on cultivating the next generation of business and community influencers in the area. The highly-attended mixer allowed members to build connections, exchange ideas, and lay the groundwork for future business collaborations and leadership initiatives. An announcement will be made soon regarding the council's next mixer event in June.

Florida's Economic Momentum Continues in Q1 2024

The latest Florida By The Numbers report highlights the state's booming economy and tourism. Employment neared 10 million with 45,300 new jobs added in April, while visitation in Q1 2024 hit a record high, surpassing 2023's annual record. Housing sales dipped slightly but median prices remained steady. Inflation cooled in April, and consumer sentiment improved thanks to a more positive economic outlook. Despite a minor uptick in unemployment, most industries continued adding jobs, led by education and healthcare services. The report analyzes metrics across the Six Pillars Framework for achieving Florida's 2030 goals.
