Chamber thrives in 2023…expansion set for 2024
|
The Chamber thrived throughout 2023 and is finishing the fourth quarter strong. Multiple events took place last week as we look forward to 2024 and all it will bring. BIG Ideas, Holiday Social and Deerfield Beach Community Heroes capped off a busy week.
We also said goodbye to one of our co-chairs of the Social Impact Council—Tracey Prescod, who passed away unexpectedly. Her celebration of life was held on Saturday. Many business leaders joined together to pay tribute.
Moving forward, the last Board meeting will be on December 21 as Chair Jack Seiler brings the year in for a landing and 2024 Chair of the Board Burnadette Norris-Weeks takes off with her team with Director orientation on January 11.
In 2024 we held over 180 events ranging in size of five to 400. Our signature events—Annual Meeting, Downtown of the Year, Small Business Innovation Conference, Rising Leaders Summer Soiree, Sawgrass Awards, Salute to Business, Perspectives on Florida’s Healthcare, Ally Awards, Holiday Social and much more.
Legislatively we moved the needle on issues ranging from expanding food and beverage on the beach to a New River crossing solution to funding for the Central and South Florida Flood Control System.
In 2024, we kick things off with our Broward County State of our Workforce – January 24, which includes a job fair. The Annual Meeting Luncheon is set for February 15 at the Signature Grand followed in March 14 with Downtowner of the Year. Another outstanding opportunity to engage will be our FPL Washington Summit (May 13-16) where we take 85 delegates to DC to work on issues for our region.
Thank you to all who participated in 2023 and to the Board of Directors, councils and committees for their tireless work. Be on the lookout for our finalized calendar for 2024 and the council/committee enrollment which will be released soon.
All My Best,
Daniel Lindblade, CAE
President & CEO

Big Ideas Conference at DRV PNK Arena
|
Chamber members and local officials joined forces last week, pooling ideas to enhance our community. Topics such as transportation and education took center stage. The event started with a panel discussion featuring Broward County Commissioner Lamar P. Fisher, Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, and Sunrise Mayor Michael Ryan
"What are the next big ideas? Sometimes it comes knocking on your door. The reality is that we have to create an environment that makes people want to live and visit here. That's the biggest role that we have as a community, to move that needle forward," Mayor Trantalis said.
The event transitioned to interactive group sessions where attendees brainstormed on vital topics like cultivating young talent, transforming Broward into an international hub, and addressing affordable housing.
"We talked about the backbone of our community and that's our small businesses. All of you are most important to us as leaders because we want to make sure that your business thrives in our communities and county. So, we want to hear from you," Commissioner Fisher said.
Gratitude to all attendees and our valued sponsors: AT&T Florida, University of Miami Health System, Memorial Healthcare System, Pier Sixty-Six Resort, and Chevron!
