Trustee Luncheon with CEO of Broward Health

Last Wednesday, our esteemed trustees gathered at Hugh’s Catering for an enlightening fireside chat. Chamber President Dan Lindblade engaged in a captivating conversation with Manny Linares, CEO of Broward Health.

Manny shared details about his journey from New Orleans, now back in South Florida, steering the ship at Broward Health. Impressive stats underscore Broward Health’s significance:

  • The hospital handles a staggering 300 ER visits daily, making it the busiest in the nation.
  • Their trauma unit hosts just under 4,000 visits per month, a testament to their unwavering commitment to community well-being.

Manny is not just a CEO; he’s a believer in personalized care. His dedication to patients and their families shines through every decision he makes. In his own words, Manny told attendees, “I have every imaginable surgeon for the hospital. That is something incredibly valuable.”

Several trustee members were also honored during the event, including representatives from Popular Bank, Comsys, and Mafe Resources.

Sea Turtle Lighting Panel Discussion

Last Friday at the chamber, we learned all about protecting hatchlings with proper lighting! Big thanks to Stephanie Roche (Broward County), Stephanie Bass (City of Fort Lauderdale Code Compliance), and Mike Fleming (Courtyard Marriot) for sharing their expertise on:

  • Lighting Maintenance: How to keep beachfront lights sea turtle-friendly
  • Beach inspections: Ensuring nesting areas stay dark
  • Window tinting & drapes: Reducing disorientation for hatchlings

Together, we can make a big difference for these amazing creatures!

April's Member of the Month: Audra Durham

When the Deerfield Beach Chamber of Commerce decided to consolidate and join forces with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce (GFLCC) in 2020 it brought a considerable number of resources from the north Broward region, including influential business leaders like Audra Durham, Director of Sales and Marketing of the award-winning Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort. Originally from Providence Rhode Island, Army Veteran, and 30-year hospitality professional; Audra was appointed to the GFLCC Board of Directors as new Deerfield Beach Council (DBC) Chair in 2021. When asked about her greatest accomplishments in this role she said, “Connecting businesses together to do business, as well as developing friendships, and putting Deerfield Beach on the map within Broward County!”

Now serving as DBC Chair for a third year, Audra hosts an ongoing monthly Coffee & Connections networking breakfast at the Wyndham and collaborates with the...Click Here for Full Story

Holy Cross Health Honors 97-Year-Old Volunteer

In recognition of National Volunteer Month, Holy Cross Health in Fort Lauderdale celebrated 97-year-old Carmel Provencal, who has been volunteering for the hospital since 1959, when the Sisters of Mercy first arrived from Pittsburgh.

The sisters arrived in the summer wearing black wool habits. Provencal immediately told them that she was a seamstress and would make them habits suitable for Florida, so she made them white cotton habits. In her 65 years of service at Holy Cross, the former home economics teacher has logged 45,360 volunteer hours. Provencal also fashioned quilts for palliative care patients, knit caps and blankets for babies and crafted bags that attached to walkers. Even today, she still sews...Click Here for Full Story
