“OUR OCEAN” PERFORMANCES THIS WEEKEND

Excitement is building at Cape Symphony for this weekend’s “Our Ocean” Masterpiece concert, presented in collaboration with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) on June 15 at 7:30 PM and June 16 at 3:00 PM. Carolyn Watson will conduct your Cape Symphony Orchestra in a program of masterworks inspired by the grandeur of the sea, including pieces by Mendelssohn, Britten and Debussy.

What better time to celebrate the sea on Cape Cod than as we’re getting back to swimming, paddling, fishing, and boating in it? Join us as we bring arts and sciences together for this unique event.

For our preconcert talks an hour before each performance, Assistant Conductor Joe Marchio yields the floor this weekend to special appearances by WHOI scientists. Instead of Musically Speaking, we’ll be Scientifically Speaking! On Saturday, scientists from the Sea Grant Program will share inspiring local stories of coastal vulnerability, strength, and resilience. On Sunday, Marine Biologist Dr. Aran Mooney and Microbial Ecologist Dr. Amy Apprill of WHOI’s Reef Solutions Team will discuss fascinating and innovative approaches to reversing the global decline of reef ecosystems.

Take it all in at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center. Tickets to “Our Ocean” are available on our website

CAPE SYMPHONY PRESCHOOL LAUNCHES APPEAL

Since 1987, Cape Symphony has provided affordable childcare to thousands of families on Cape Cod. As a non-profit preschool program, donations are needed to keep tuition affordable and scholarships available for students.

Did you know that Cape Symphony Preschool is an arts-based preschool where students participate in the Suzuki violin method? What a joy it is to see our preschoolers walk through the front doors each morning carrying their tiny, ¼ size violins! Now, more than ever, our preschool teachers are using music as a pathway to help our young students navigate tough emotions, develop advanced cognitive skills, and communicate effectively with their peers and adults.

Anywhere else, this commitment to care for students and teach through the arts would come at a premium cost. Not at Cape Symphony. Prices to attend our Preschool program remain extremely competitive, and over 50% of families receive some form of aid.

Supported by a generous matching gift from our Board of Trustees, Cape Symphony will raise $25,000 by June 30 to increase the availability of scholarships for families as well as address a historic rise in overhead costs to ensure our student-to-teacher ratio remains low.

Learn more about our Preschool in the video above and help us reach our $25,000 goal by donating today. Our students and families are deeply grateful for your support!

CSP & MVY RADIO BRING OSHIMA BROTHERS TO FALMOUTH

Cape Symphony Presents and MVY RADIO bring you the Oshima Brothers with special guest Louisa Stancioff on Friday, June 21 at 7:00 PM at Cape Symphony’s Falmouth Campus (60 Highfield Drive).

Check out the Oshima Brothers performing their original song Dance With Me”...

The Oshima Brothers are a Japanese-Italian indie duo from Maine whose “harmonies can’t be beat,” says Sara Willis of Maine Public Radio. “They are uplifting and, let’s face it, we need uplifting these days.” Sean and Jamie have been creating music together since childhood. They perform lush vocals, live looping, foot percussion, electric and acoustic guitars, vintage keyboard and bass - often all at once. An Oshima Brothers show feels like a deep breath, a dance party, and a sonic embrace.

Tickets to see the Oshima Brothers and Louisa Stancioff are $25, available at the door or through EventbriteBeverages from Devil’s Purse Brewing Co. and food from The Kitchn food truck will be available for purchase at the event.

“Cape Symphony Presents” is an eclectic showcase of world-class music that transcends genres, shares stories, and brings people together at venues across the cape and islands.

A MESSAGE FROM MIKE

Celebrating the Cape Symphony Preschool Program

Dear Cape Symphony Community,

At the Cape Symphony Preschool on our Barnstable campus, we embark on an enchanting academic and artistic journey with your children each and every day. Our program is uniquely designed to blend the magic of numbers, letters, books, and storytelling with the joy of music, dance, and visual arts. From conducting science experiments and exploring the weather to learning about animal habits and uncovering neighborhood mysteries, our students experience a world of discovery.

Research has consistently shown that an arts-infused education offers significant benefits to young learners. At Cape Symphony Preschool, we believe in the transformative power of integrating the arts into everyday learning. Our curriculum includes singing, dancing, playing instruments, and creating art, allowing children to develop both academically and artistically.

Students in our Monday/Wednesday/Friday preschool classes even receive Suzuki-inspired violin instruction, modeled after the successful Talent Education Institute in Japan founded by Shinichi Suzuki. This program nurtures natural talent and ability, fostering growth through training and encouragement.

An arts-enriched environment engages children’s senses, providing a pathway for all types of learners. Through artistic activities, children learn to think both objectively and creatively. They develop essential skills such as listening, observing, describing, analyzing, interpreting, and acting independently. Physically, they enhance their motor skills, flexibility, strength, and balance. Socially, they learn to share, collaborate, and express themselves, with or without words.

Our dedicated and experienced preschool teachers are nurturing, accessible, responsive, and fun. They are committed to creating a supportive environment where every child can thrive. Additionally, we offer optional enrichment activities after school. Cape Symphony staff members transition students to a delightful mix of music, art, and dance/movement classes, providing further opportunities for growth and enjoyment.

We are proud of the Cape Symphony Preschool and the unique, arts-infused education we provide. We invite you to join us in celebrating the joy of learning and the magic of the arts.

Warm regards,

Michael Albaugh
