At its December 9, 2022 meeting, the California State Lands Commission unanimously approved a 20-year tidal land lease for the Doheny Desalination Project. The Project has now advanced through its final state regulatory hurdle, and can now proceed toward its next phase.

CalDesal was pleased to join several other water agencies, state legislative and congressional leaders, desalination industry professionals, business organizations, and labor in supporting the Doheny Desalination Project at the State Lands Commission hearing. Congratulations to the South Coast Water District and its consultant team on a fantastic effort to navigate an exceedingly complex process and to build a strong coalition to support the successful effort!

The Events Planning Committee is currently working to construct and shape a very compelling conference program for attendees! This Annual Conference will be the premier event on desalination and salinity management in California during 2023, attracting water professionals from throughout the state, the country, and the world for knowledge-sharing, networking, and collaboration. The program will feature nine engaging sessions that will highlight the role desalination will play in California’s water resilient future, in light of the state’s changing climate and aridification. You’ll hear about lessons learned through recent regulatory permitting processes, emerging frontiers in brackish groundwater desalination, exciting innovations in desalination technology, and more!
