Welcome to the team, Sydney and Shekinah!

We are excited to announce that we have recently hired two new Youth Program Assistants, Sydney Foster and Shekinah Bowers. You will see them playing with kids at our after school enrichment programs, organizing children activities at our events, and they will also be working in our summer camps. In addition, they will be assisting our coordinators with various tasks around the office. We are thrilled to have them on board and cannot wait for them to start making a positive impact on our community. Please join us in welcoming Sydney and Shekinah to our team!

Here is a little about them in their own words:

Sydney Foster

My name is Sydney Foster, I am so excited for my opportunity to be working with BBBPRD2!

I've lived in Washington for about 3 years and absolutely love it!

I am a huge musical theatre nerd and love spending my free time singing, dancing, and acting. As well as hanging out with my family and two dogs.

I'm excited to get to know everyone!

Shekinah Bowers

Hi! I am super excited to be a part of Blaine- Birch Bay Park and Recreation District 2 team.

I will be assisting with the youth program.

A little about myself:

I have lived in Whatcom county for 10 years. On my free time I enjoy roller blading around Blaine, bike riding and spending time in my garden. My favorite thing to do over all is spend time with my 3 year old daughter.

I am thankful to be a part of the community and I am looking forward to getting to know all the wonderful people that participate in the activities set up by BBBPRD2.

FREE Intro to Pickleball for Kids and Families!

Pickleball was played for the first time on a summer afternoon in August,1965 on Bainbridge Island here in Washington. It was created originally by three dads (and later moms) for their kids and teens. Since then, pickleball has exploded in popularity with an estimated 36 million Americans playing the game.

Pickleball – originally created as a child’s game – speaks to the child within all of us. That is why you hear laughter, fun, and joy on courts in the U.S. and now, around the world.

So, parents, bring your kids out to the Birch Bay Activity Center this summer to see what the fun is all about!

Blaine-Birch Bay Park and Recreation District 2 and Coach Mark Pickleball will be offering three FREE events for kids and families from 1-3 p.m. on June 23, July 28, and August 25.

Pickleball paddles will be available to use and all three outdoor courts at the Birch Bay Activity Center will be available. Coach Mark, BBPRD2’s teaching pro since July 2020, will be available (along with several volunteers) to provide basic instruction and an introduction to playing the game.

But the primary focus will be FUN!

Space is limited to the first 16 participants (kids and parents or caregivers).

Mini-Singles Pickleball Tournament

Did you know a new tournament format was introduced in 2023 across the United States? It’s called Mini-Singles (or Skinny Singles).

When you play a game of mini-singles, you use just one-half of the court. A game of mini-singles is a great way to improve ball control, accuracy, strategy, and ability to pre-plan shots. It’s also a fun way to compete against other players and test your skills!

Blaine - Birch Bay Park and Recreation District 2 is hosting the 2nd Annual Mini-Singles Tournament on May 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Space is limited so sign up today!

"This class was very nice. My whole body was sore the next day, in a good way. I have used muscles I had not used previously."

Susie D.

"AB-solute Cardio is an incredible class for keeping up cardio and core while having a fantastic time. Angela is very easy to follow and caters the class to your needs, showing three different options so everyone can be successful and comfortable."
