Meet Ms. Rachel

Ms. Rachel lives in St. Pete with her two grandchildren. She has been raising her grandchildren alone for the past seven years.

Every month, she struggles to make ends meet due to being on a fixed income.

Ms. Rachel is currently receiving Social Security disability benefits. She used to have a reliable, full-time job, but one day, after finishing her shift and heading home, she was robbed at gunpoint and shot three times. This is her story.

Daystar Chosen as Grand Central Brewhouse's Brew Good Partner for August

We are thrilled and deeply grateful to announce that we have been selected as one of Grand Central Brewhouse's Brew Good partners for the month of August!

Grand Central Brewhouse, known for its strong commitment to giving back to the community (and delicious brews) runs a special initiative called the Brew Good program. This program partners with nonprofit organizations on a rotating basis, providing vital support to local charities.

Throughout August, 15% of sales from three of Grand Central Brewhouse's top-selling beers will be donated to three different local charities, including Daystar. This generous contribution will help us continue our mission to support those in need in our community.

So why not join us in this fantastic cause? Head over to Grand Central Brewhouse, enjoy an ice-cold beer, and make a difference with every sip.

For more information about the Brew Good program, visit Grand Central Brewhouse's community page. Cheers to making a positive impact together!

Our Edible Garden is Nominated for "Best Community Garden" in Creative Loafing's Best of the Bay 2024 Contest

We are incredibly honored to announce that our Edible Garden, also known as the Food Pantry Farm, has been nominated in the "Places" category for "Best Community Garden" in Creative Loafing's Best of the Bay 2024 contest!

This nomination is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our community and volunteers who have helped cultivate and sustain this vital resource. The Edible Garden plays a crucial role in providing fresh, healthy produce to those in need, and we are thrilled to be recognized for our efforts.

But we need your help to win! Voting is open now, and you can cast your vote once a day, every day, until August 31st. To support us, simply register at Creative Loafing's Best of the Bay and make your voice heard.

Your vote can help shine a spotlight on the importance of community gardens and the positive impact they have on our neighborhoods. Thank you for your continued support!

We hope to see you there!

Packs and Snacks for Kids Initiative Exceeds Goal Thanks to You

We are thrilled to announce that our Packs and Snacks for Kids initiative has surpassed its goal, and it's all thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors and the hard work of our volunteers! 🎉🙌

A special shoutout goes to our awesome Daystar volunteers and the teams from Accenture x Global Shapers for packing lunchboxes with healthy snacks for children in need. Each lunchbox includes a little note to inspire confidence on the first day of school.

We'd also like to highlight the efforts of the amazing students at Liberty Baptist Vacation Bible School for packing 34 colorful backpacks full of healthy snacks! Your efforts have made a tangible difference, and we couldn't have done it without you.

We're now ready to distribute these lunchboxes to families with children in grades K-8, ensuring that young minds are nourished as they head back to school this month. If you know a child in need, please share the following pickup information:

Pickup Location:

  • Daystar Life Center
  • 1055 28th Street South
  • St. Petersburg, FL 33712

To pick up a lunchbox, families should visit our center with their child or bring documentation, such as a birth certificate, showing how many children in grades K-8 live in their household.

Thank you once again for your unwavering support - together, we're making a meaningful impact in our community!
