Amberley Village Alert System

As many residents are already aware, the new Village Alert System has been experiencing some bugs during the registration process from mobile devices. Our software vendor is working to resolve the issues, but residents are reminded that they can still register online or by calling the Village Administration Office or Dispatch (see below).

We have been assured that the system itself is working properly, and staff is preparing to test it with residents over the coming weeks as we approach the

Annual Ice Cream Social. There will also be additional opportunities to sign up for the Alert System at the event.

Please note that this is NOT the previous alert system, which is now defunct. In order to receive regular updates, we must have a new set of permissions to contact you. Register online at https://accountportal.onsolve.net/Amberley, or call Amberley Village Administration at 513-531-8675. Assistance is also available via Dispatch 24/7 at 513-531-2040.

Accelerated Streets Program Update:

Rollman Project to Resume

On Monday, 7/29, Barret Construction began repaving work in the subdivision, starting on Beech Hollow, by grinding up three inches of asphalt. This process will take several days to complete for the entire subdivision, after which several more days will be dedicated to full-depth spot repairs throughout the area.

Starting the week of August 5, new asphalt will be laid down and is expected to be completed by 8/20, weather permitting. Flyers and no parking signs will be posted in the work areas, and no cars will be permitted to park on the street. However, full access to the neighborhood, including driveways, will remain open.

The final step of the project will involve applying a light coating of rejuvenate with a sand finish to extend the life of the pavement.

The entire project is expected to be completed by the end of August.

Questions or concerns can be directed to Chris Fritsch, Village Project Administrator, at cfritsch@amberleyvillage.org.

Police Department Issues Scam Alerts

Please read the following scam alerts and following precautions. If you believe you have been the victim of a scam, please call Amberley Village Police at 513-531-2040.

OHIO TURNPIKE E-Z PASS SCAM

If you receive a text message claiming that you owe money for unpaid tolls, the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission warns that it's a scam, where messages are positioned as "tollway authorities" requesting money and information from customers.

Learn more: https://www.yahoo.com/news/ohio-turnpike-warns-very-realistic-180211642.html

HAMILTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT SCAM

Hamilton County Sheriff's Department also warns of a recent scam where a caller is using legitimate names of HCSD employees, saying there are subpoenas against them that will require payment to remove.

Learn more: https://www.hcso.org/phone-scam/

The following tips for avoiding smishing scams come from the Federal Communications Commission's website:

  • Never click links, reply to text messages or call numbers you don't recognize.
  • Do not respond, even if the message requests that you "text STOP" to end messages.
  • Delete all suspicious texts.
  • Make sure your smart device OS and security apps are updated to the latest version.
  • Consider installing anti-malware software on your device for added security.
  • Protect any sensitive personal information — bank accounts, health records, social media accounts, etc. — by using multi-factor authentication to access it.

Cost-Saving Culture: Maintenance Department Replaces Swale on Verger Lane

Gravel along Verger Lane continued to wash out, impacting drainage and posing a potential road hazard for motorists along Verger Lane.

Amberley Village Crews utilized their mini-excavator to re-ditch the swale and established a 250-foot stable flow line to the catch basin.

Left untreated, the road would have continued to be undermined by uncontrolled water flow, which could have potentially cost thousands in road repairs. Heavy rains of recent years have gradually overflowed and washed out existing water pathways to the basins. This repair, which was done utilizing equipment the Village acquired via grant dollars, will not only prevent costly road repairs, it increases safety for motorists. Measures like these save Village taxpayers, and enable Amberley Village to remain debt-free, which is yet another strong testament to the Village commitment to cost savings and good stewardship of your valuable taxpayer dollars.

Municipal Rain Garden Gets a Facelift!

The Rain Garden at the Amberley Village Municipal Park, which runs along the Dena Lane side of the Lower Walking Track, recently received a facelift by the Maintenance Department. In addition to clearing out dead trees and brush, new educational signage alongside the Garden was installed using existing posts, which were also touched up with a coat of fresh paint.

The Village Rain Garden is both a beautiful and functional asset to the Village, as it serves to slow water flow utilizing the root systems of the wildflowers and foliage along the route. The Rain Garden creates a natural swale to stop erosion, and provides a beautiful border separating public property from residential lots along Dena Lane. By utilizing Maintenance Department creativity, labor and specialized skills, the Village was able to refresh this asset that has been a key feature in the Municipal Park for more than 15 years, at minimal cost to residents. Maintenance Department crewmembers anticipate that the signage, which was also originally designed and built by crewmembers, should last another 15 - 20 years.

Learn more about the benefits of the Amberley Village Rain Garden by visiting its three education stations, which are positioned at the top, midpoint and Section Road end of the Lower Walking Track along the side of the Municipal Park Lower Walking Track furthest from the Baseball Field parking lot!

CarFit Program Boosts Driver Safety

Amberley Village Senior Safety Program recently partnered with Hamilton County Safe Communities to offer CarFit to residents of Amberley Village. The program seeks to work with residents, and particularly seniors, to maximize safety while driving by providing minor adjustments to better fit them to their cars. The event was nearly fully booked, and volunteers at the event were kept busy the entire time!

Thanks to all who participated in our CarFit event, and especially to CarFit Event Coordinators Krista Jones and Stephanie Lambers and Amberley Village resident Sharon Garry, Grant Coordinator for Hamilton County Safe Communities, who connected CarFit with our new Senior Safety Program!

Environmental Stewardship Committee, Staff Take Tour of Rumpke Recycling Facility

Identifying recyclables and committing to household recycling practices go a long way in reducing waste. When recyclable items are thrown away with other solid waste, they take up valuable space at landfills. However, when recyclable items are placed in recycling bins they are sent to a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) where they are separated and transported to end markets to be turned into something new. Recycling certain materials offers benefits to the environment by conserving natural resources, reducing pollution, and saving energy.

Maintenance employees Josh Caudill and Christo Wallace, and Administrative Assistant Carolyn Wallis recently had the honor of touring Rumpke's Material Recovery Facility in St. Bernard. This long-awaited visit by the Environmental Stewardship Committee exceeded their high expectations. Observing the vast amount of materials processed, even on a day considered slow, deeply impressed the visitors. The tour was an enlightening experience that highlighted the critical role of sustainable waste management practices. Watching the video linked below will provide a more comprehensive understanding of this impressive operation.

Local Tax Dollars:

Bring It Home Campaign

Did you know that local income tax should be paid to the municipality where the work is performed, and not where the business is located? Efforts are underway to inform and educate residents about the importance of bringing their tax dollars home. With an increase in the number of workers based either part-time or full-time from home, tax law allows for adjustments in tax withholdings to reflect where work is conducted.

This can benefit Amberley greatly if you are currently working from home. As a work-from-home employee, local taxes from your paycheck should be returned to the municipality from where you are working on a percentage basis, according to the number of hours you work from home. Residents who work from home are encouraged to contact their payroll administrator to request a reallocation of withholdings. In addition, back taxes can be requested and refiled for the past three years.

Adjustments will not cost residents any additional dollars, and instructions are available for how to claim back-taxes from other municipalities. For more information, please contact Tax Administrator Ken Smallwood at ksmallwood@amberleyvillage.org or at 513-531-1350.

Duke Energy Voltage Training for Firefighters

Duke Energy trainers show AVFD employees the impact of high voltage on a sausage link to replicate the effects on a human finger, which was immediately and severely burned. One trainer explained that a sausage was selected to simulate the voltage exposure to similar flesh and water content.

Amberley Village Fire Department, which includes all Police and Maintenance Department, recently attended a training where Duke Energy highlighted the importance of caution when dealing with downed wires and electrical equipment. The demonstration included live wires and examples of what can happen when human beings and animals are exposed to varying degrees of voltage, which range from severe burns to death. Residents are reminded NEVER to handle downed wires, but instead, to contact Amberley Village Fire Department and Duke Energy to provide assistance.
