The Importance of Caregiver Services

For children to succeed, they need to be nurtured and supported by caring, healthy adults.

Caregivers are continually managing multiple life stressors: child care, housing, finances, interpersonal conflict, domestic or community violence, even a family history of abuse or neglect, health, or problems at work. Any or all of these challenges may reduce a parent's capacity to cope effectively with the typical day-to-day stressors which eventually affect their children.

Our team rose to meet a community need for additional adult and caregiver mental health supports for those who care for our child clients.

We understand that this wrap-around support is critical to helping disrupt cycles of intergenerational trauma and honing the resiliency of families in our community.

Donor Spotlight: Sentara Healthcare

Sentara Healthcare, based out of Norfolk, is an integrated, not-for-profit health care delivery system with 12 hospitals in Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina.

Last year, Sentara invested $165,000 in ChildSavers for our Mental Health Services program and general operating support. These funds help close the gap left from insurance reimbursements (typically less than half the actual cost) as well as non-billable time spent providing comprehensive treatment with children, families, caregivers, and caseworkers.

Then, this past winter, Sentara approached us to collaborate on a video series, Anchoring Communities: The Power of Presence. This project highlights the importance of community support, and why the work we do is critical to support our communities across the greater Richmond Metro area.

Thank you Sentara Healthcare for partnering with us to further our vision that all children can be safe, happy, healthy, and ready to learn.
