Responding to Victim of House Fire

One afternoon in late September, Mindy Tyler happened to look out her window and thought she had seen smoke coming out of the neighbor's house across the street. Mindy ran over and was met in the doorway by the 90 year old woman who lived there as more smoke began billowing out of the home. The woman had already called 911 but was hesitant to leave the home. Mindy kept her calm and assisted her to safety until firefighters arrived. Thankfully, no one was harmed and the home was saved.

We applaud Mindy for quickly jumping into action for a citizen in need.

Keen Awareness on Sewer Project

Throughout his tenure at GEL, Tony Mangum has displayed a proven track record of safety awareness and response in the field. Back in October while performing a SUE investigation on a sewer project, the GEL team observed sewer workers cutting into a sealed manhole which was thought to be a Sewer ARV (Air Release Valve.) Tony and his crew immediately recognized the dangers and distanced themselves from the potentially catastrophic hazard.

We commend Tony once again for his vigilance and alertness, ensuring the safety of himself and his team.

Terrestrial LiDAR Scan of Aircraft Hangar Door and Support Rails

3D laser scanning, also commonly known as terrestrial LiDAR scanning, has become a popular method of investigation for a growing range of industries and applications due to it's ability to cover of large areas in a short amount of time while delivering precise results.

In the summer of 2021, the GEL team conducted terrestrial LiDAR scans at Piedmont International Airport (PTI.) The scan data was used to create a plan view showing the path of the centerline of the four support rails and the deviation from the true linear rail along with the plumbness between the upper guide beams to the lower rails. Scans of the outer surface of each wheel was used to create a visual interpretation for our client, depicting the relative alignment.

Cleopatra's Lost Tomb?

After nearly two decades of searching, a tunnel beneath the ancient Taposiris Magna Temple in Egypt has been discovered which experts believe could lead to the lost tomb of Cleopatra VII. Dr. Kathleen Martinez, a criminal lawyer turned archaeologist, is credited with the discovery which was revealed during an excavation project that she led. Martinez had faced skepticism by the archeological community throughout her pursuit which began began in 2004.

The discovered 1.3km rock cut tunnel contained two Ptolemaic-era statues along with other findings that could offer more clues to the famous queen and the Ptolemaic dynasty which she ruled from from 51 to 30 BC. "Martinez’s team discovered coins in the tunnel that bear the image of Cleopatra and Roman politician and general Mark Antony. They also found skeletons, mummies, burial rooms, tablets stating the name of the temple, and underground passages."
