Where Most Paths End,
Ours Begins...

Dooley Intermed's medical expedition used horses to carry medical supplies across the Himalayan Mountain passes to reach remote villages.

Did you know that there are many, young and old, suffering from uncorrected refractive errors (nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism) that can be easily and inexpensively cured with eyeglasses?

The leading cause of blindness in Nepal is cataracts, followed by trachoma, and injuries. Cataracts effect primarily older individuals, but can be treated very cost effectively by a relatively simple sight-restoring surgery. Trachoma is an insidious disease, often affecting children, slowly damaging the eye until the patient eventually becomes blind. It can be cured at very low cost if diagnosed and treated in time. Dooley Intermed's "Gift of Sight" programs is helping to alleviate suffering, restore dignity and opportunity by enabling villagers to work and provide food for themselves and their families.

One of Dooley Intermed's Gift of Sight Expeditions to the Mustang region of Nepal was featured in an award winning documentary film "Visions of Mustang" (2012), directed by Daniel Byers and produced by Skyship Films. Click here or watch the trailer below

Overview of Mustang Region Public Health Situation
(Source: Demographic and Health data from Mustang District Profile, Government of Nepal, Survey Department)

The rural and highly dispersed population of Mustang is severely disadvantaged and underserved. Over 85% of the people belong to social groups classified by the Nepalese government as marginalized, disadvantaged, endangered, or Dalit ("Untouchable"). Life expectancy is only 57 years, and the literacy rate is 61% for men and just 41% for women. Children comprise about 28% of the population, and seniors 50 years and older, many of whom suffer from vision problems, make up another 18% of the total population of Mustang.

Thanks to your kind support...
Dooley Intermed's programs have continued to achieve outstanding success. Your support enables us to bring health care, education, and opportunities for a better life to thousands of remote villagers, especially children, living in the far corners of the world.

Meet Biraj Dhungana...

Biraj is one of the children in the newly built Orphanage/Eco-Farm in the Sankhu Valley, Nepal which Dooley Intermed is providing much needed support.

Biraj is one of the most active among the younger kids. He has a very good imagination and loves to tell tales and stories to everyone. He loves to play hide and seek with his Orphanage/ Eco-farm friends and is a fantastic entertainer. When asked what he wants to be when he grows up, he says, "Army!" with a twinkle in his eyes. Biraj lost his father a few years back, after which his mother left him in the care of his maternal uncle, to work in the city as a laborer.  She can barely earn enough money to feed herself.  Biraj's uncle also comes from a background of extreme poverty with no education and no assets, hence, leaving Biraj with very little to look forward to in the future. Since joining our  Orphanage/Eco-home, he has been able to outshine the rest of his classmates at school, making him one of the top students. Very creative, yet very mischievous, that's our Biraj!

Your contributions help Biraj and many other children in desperate need, providing hope and opportunity for a better life... On behalf of Biraj and the other kids, Thank You!
