Hello Lynn Community:
As you may have already heard, LEAP for Education and the Lynn Public Schools are partnering to create a high quality after-school program that will open in the Thurgood Marshall Middle School (TMMS) in the Fall of 2020 for students in grades 6-8.
WHY: Lynn is home to many exceptional youth-serving organizations serving middle school youth. However, this will be the first comprehensive after-school program operating inside TMMS that will offer education and career pathway services for all participants as well as specialized support for our second language learners. We look forward to working with other partners in the community and optimizing our collective impact.
Join us in these efforts! We are looking for Lynn community members who are interested in joining the Stakeholder Group to help us in the TMMS after-school program development process. Our first meeting will be on Thursday, February 27, at Marshall Middle School starting at 5:00 PM. Please RSVP by Feb 26 so we have a head count for food. If you are unable to attend this first meeting but would like to be part of the group, please let us know.
WHO: Our goal is to have a diverse stakeholder group that reflects the Lynn community, including schools, parents, students, businesses, non-profits, and government.
WHAT: The goal of the Stakeholder Group is to provide guidance to help ensure the successful launch of a high-quality, inclusive after-school program at TMMS that meets the needs of the community.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM: The program will be free and will include academic enrichment, college and career exploration, and opportunities that will help students grow socially and emotionally. Programming will be developed that get students into the community to learn about its culture, businesses, and abundant community resources. The after-school program will offer a free snack and daily transportation home for those who need it. Included in this program will also be a cohort of English Learners who will receive specialized support for improving their oral English skills.
The commitment we are asking for includes:
  • Attending two meetings to provide important feedback to the planning group on schedule, logistics, staffing and programmatic elements. (If you can only attend one, that is OK.)
Meeting #1: Thursday, February 27th
 Meeting #2: Thursday, April 9th
  • Providing assistance in student recruitment, building community awareness, and developing new and exciting partnerships within the community for students to learn.
Thereafter, we will be meeting three times per year after the full program is implemented (scheduled for October, 2020) to hear status updates and to provide collective idea-sharing for new, innovative programs, funding, and partnerships.
We would be very excited to have you join the stakeholder group.
We hope to see you soon!
