The Soon-To-Be Nixon Mini-Museum Arrives!
Faded Memories
Community spirit had never been higher.
With excited anticipation, volunteers looked forward to the museum being in
tip-top shape and filled with memorabilia for our country's 200th birthday, July 4, 1976.

The Yorba Linda Star reported that according to Joleen Matych, Project Chairman of the Yorba Linda Service Club, the museum would be open later that summer. Karen Kemp, Chairman of the Steering Committee, encouraged participation in asking for contributions from the community, general help in restoration and display, and assistance in obtaining historical information. As interest and community spirit grew, enthusiasts looked forward to a complete and fully operational Richard Nixon Museum on our country’s 200-year anniversary, July 4, 1976. Already a groundswell of interest was putting the museum well on its way to completion.

Delivery and Preparation for the Nixon Museum
After serving Union Pacific for 31 years, the future Richard Nixon Museum made its final stop. A little dirty and with two cracked windows that occurred on its way from Mira Loma, volunteers were anxious to give it a good scrubbing, repair the windows and add artifacts. Soon it would be in pristine shape.
| |
Community volunteers laid train track in preparation for the arrival.
Excitement was running high!
| |
A 60-ton crane unloaded the trucks (wheels) near our train depot, exactly where the Pacific Electric train track ran beginning in 1910.
The crane placed the chassis on the wheels.
Above, Beverly Poole, a train enthusiast, was quoted in the Northern Light News saying, “I can’t wait to clean it up.” After a good scrubbing by volunteers, a new red paint job was next on the agenda. Community members noted with enthusiasm that the caboose was even complete with a pot-bellied stove!
The love affair with a little red caboose next to our historic train depot and near the home and birthplace of our 37th President had just begun! And, maybe, just maybe, it was a tiny inspiration to someday make Yorba Linda the future home of the Nixon Library and Museum.

How to Remove Skunk Smells-Opinion
From a post on Facebook
________________________________
The best way we’ve found to remove the smell of skunk is:
1 bottle hydrogen peroxide,
1 tablespoon dish soap
1/4 cup baking soda
Sponge
Put first two in bowl, have the stinky one ready in sink and just before you sponge the mixture on add baking soda. Be VERY careful not to get it in nose or eyes. Massage through hair. Let it sit for 10 minutes before rinsing. Use your regular soap, rinse, dry. You literally can let them sleep on your bed after with no issues.

Yorba Linda Time Lapse
The videos below are listed in order from newest to oldest. Should you choose to watch them you will see that the content, presentation, and duration has grown with time. Along the way much was learned and new techniques employed. As new videos are created, it is my goal to continue this trend.
The availability of old photographs of our city is what makes these videos possible. I have pretty much "borrowed" everything currently on the internet, but will continue the search. Should anyone have old, interesting, family snapshots, home video, or photographs of Yorba Linda (and surrounding areas) and are willing to share them, please contact me at: grandspud@yahoo.com Larry
