Sorting out the Truth vs Fiction
Opinion
Much of the unfounded information about our schools reportedly comes from pro-union Facebook sites, PYL Buzz and Yorba Linda Moms. The pro-union sites often use fictitious names from the animal kingdom, such as Panda Bear, Yogi and Koala. According to radio talk show host and retired police officer, Andy Falco-Jimenez, he believes that Linda Manion, APL President, is a mystery administrator.

Hidden Money
Falsehood: School board members Carrie Buck and Marilyn Anderson now state that they knew all along about $40 million "hidden" from the public and the school board.
Truth: Dr. Cherniss recently stated, “I recall conversations with each of you discussing these other funds and the money in them. You were not aware of the money…nor the nature of these funds….none of the board members I met with (all 5) were aware”…
Following the 2023 hiring of Dr. Cherniss, the "hidden" $40 million was listed in the 2023-24 Budget for the first time.
Ignoring the $282 Million Bonds Buck Approved
Displaced Concerns: Union backers, including teachers and school board members Anderson and Buck, have repeatedly expressed financial concerns.
Truth: Not one has mentioned the outrageous and irresponsible purchase of $282 million in now illegal CAB bonds. The money must be paid back beginning in 2036 and the amount is 12.8 times the funds received. The bonds cannot be refinanced or paid off early and could make the district insolvent. School board member Carrie Buck was a part of the union-backed school board decision. Read more https://conta.cc/44Ijf7
Anderson and Buck Voting NO on Spending
Displaced Concerns: Marilyn Anderson and Carrie Buck voted NO on the Universal Sports Institute (USI). Anderson stated that she would not spend "one penny" on USI.
Truth: USI has already increased enrollment for 2024-25. Funding for the program comes primarily from City Developer Fees and a state grant. An existing facility is being repurposed, keeping costs down.
In addition, Anderson and Buck objected to spending money for contracts with trainers, specifically for special education students, sports psychologists, and other services needed due to licensing fees. Are Anderson and Buck unaware that curriculum textbooks and computer programs require these services as part of licensing agreements?
False Allegation
Falsehood: Dr. Cherniss has hired his son to be the contractor for improvements to the future USI facility.
Truth: This is a complete fairytale as his son is nine years old.
No Lawsuits Against Dr. Cherniss
Falsehood: Dr. Cheriss has lawsuits against him.
Truth: There are no lawsuits against Dr. Cherniss
No Book Banning by Dr. Cherniss
Falsehood: Under the leadership of Dr. Cherniss, books have been banned from PYLUSD.
Truth: The only books banned were pornographic which leads one to question why they were ever purchased or obtained by our school district? It is against the law to have such books in school libraries.
No One Fired
Falsehood: Teachers and administrators have been fired.
Truth: No teachers or administrators have been fired.
