Welcome

Hello Foundation Family, and welcome to our summer newsletter! We finished the school year with many exciting activities that celebrated our students' hard work and achievements. Read all about our graduation, events created by our social committee, and recognition of our amazing staff.

Wrapping Up the Year

We are always excited to end the school year by celebrating our graduates. In honor of their hard work, our 8th-grade students took a trip to Top Golf, where many of them played the sport for the first time. It was fun seeing students explore new skills. Meanwhile, our seniors chose to have a celebratory lunch at Silver Diner ahead of their graduation.

Class of 2024 Graduation!

This year we celebrated the hard work and dedication of our 11 graduating seniors and our eight 8th graders moving on to high school. It was an amazing day, highlighting the accomplishments of our graduates and motivating both students and staff to continue working hard to meet their goals. As part of our high school ceremony, our seniors reflected on the lessons they learned during their time in school. A few of the most poignant lessons they shared were:

  • “Do what you need to do before you do what you want to do.”
  • “To be successful, make smart decisions that help you get your life together.”
  • “Don’t just follow the decisions of others. Take power in leading your own life.”

Congratulations Class of 2024 for reaching this amazing milestone!

Fun and Games at Our Family Day!

To mark the end of our staff’s professional development week, FSMC hosted a “family day” where staff family members enjoyed food, games, and activities on our school campus. Our special guests learned how their family member’s job makes a positive impact and toured our school building for the first time. It was great to have our families and staff bond while showcasing the amazing work they do for our community’s special education students.

End-of-the-Year Socials

Our amazing Socials Committee planned fun events for our students to celebrate and reward them for their positive behavior. This included carnival games, yoga, painting pumpkins, multicultural potlucks, ice cream floats, a painting party, and a museum trip. This series of events culminated in a fun day at the bowling alley for our students. We are proud of our students who worked hard to maintain their behavioral goals and look forward to creating more opportunities like these for our students in the future.

Staff Shout Outs

Throughout the year, we recognize the efforts of new and existing staff through the newcomer staff and staff of the quarter awards. We are grateful for all they do to make our classrooms and organization great.

Newcomer Staff of the Quarter: Mr. Gomes

Our outstanding newcomer staff is Mr. Gomes! Mr. Gomes joined our teaching staff at the beginning of the school year. He has grown tremendously, developing his teaching craft, behavior management skills, and relationships with students and staff. Mr. Gomes maintains a calm and consistent demeanor, even when facing challenges. Congratulations Mr. Gomes!

Staff of the Quarter: Ms. Irick

Ms. Irick is a long-time program assistant who anchored the social studies classroom this year. She uses her wide-ranging skills and interests to build strong relationships with our students and provide guidance and encouragement for those with specific interests. For instance, Ms. Irick taught students how she makes different sets of jewelry and talked with others about what it takes to get into cosmetology. She uses her relationships to encourage students to make good choices and often prevents crises with just a few keywords.

Staff of the Quarter: Mr. Mason

Mr. Mason is another long-time program assistant who has been the backbone of the middle school program for the last few years. He is always the first to respond when there is a call for assistance, whether it’s a staff member asking for the bathroom to be opened or a call for help with a student crisis. Mr. Mason is willing to do anything that is asked of him with enthusiasm. He provides a consistent presence in the middle school classrooms, lending his experience to new staff to help them work positively with our students.
