ANTI-HUMAN TRAFFICKING - MISSION RELATED INVESTING
Donors interested in combatting human trafficking came together in October to learn about aligning their investment portfolios with efforts to fight modern-day slavery.
Investors are increasingly playing an important part in seeking to ensure their assets are not contributing to modern slavery. Amol Mehra of the Freedom Fund and Kyle Wright of the Stardust Fund facilitated a conversational presentation on resources, practices, and their journeys in values-related investing. In brief: investors first adopt this conceptual framework, then apply and activate new investment methodologies.

NEXT GEN GIVING CIRCLE GRANT RECIPIENT
This year’s Next Gen Giving Circle (NGGC) mission is
to support programs and services aimed at increasing college and/or vocational access, persistency, and ultimately graduation rates for vulnerable youth (16-25) in Harris County.
The recipient of the $10,000 grant is BridgeYear, an organization that connects students from low-income communities to skills-based educational pathways and high-demand employment opportunities through immersive career exposure and near-peer planning.

NATIONAL PHILANTHROPY MONTH
The GHCF staff celebrated National Philanthropy Month by participating in two in-office impact opportunities.
We conducted a month-long, internal food drive for
Houston Food Bank
by placing two food bank boxes in the GHCF office; our team collected a good assortment of food to help people experiencing food insecurity.
National Philanthropy Month concluded with a special project for the
Rise School of Houston
. Several GHCF staff members assisted teachers by completing their classroom packets. It was so much fun to make an impact while cutting, coloring, and gluing!
