There have been some exciting additions to Dutton Casey & Mesoloras these past few months. We have added new staff and are planning to share a press release with further news.

We also presented at the 17th Annual Elder Law Short Course through the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (more information below).
Attorney Caitlin Stanfel

Caitlin concentrates her practice on adult guardianship estates, Medicaid planning and applications, and trust and estate administration.

Caitlin has been licensed to practice law in Illinois since 2018. Prior to joining Dutton Casey & Mesoloras, P.C., she clerked for a state circuit court judge in the General Chancery Division of the Cook County Circuit Court. During and after law school, Caitlin also volunteered for legal aid organizations where she acquired experience in estate planning and long-term care planning.

Monica DiOrio, Client Care Coordinator

Monica has been a leader and advocate for those in need for over 15 years. Monica earned her Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology and Bachelor’s of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Monica also earned a Multicultural Certificate for her diversified course of studies. Monica is currently pursuing a Master’s in Social Work through the University of Illinois at Chicago and plans to specialize in mental health. 

In this role, Monica helps families navigate the legal and care systems, helping clients and their families make informed decisions about health care and long-term care needs.

Awareness in November
National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month

On October 29, 2021, President Biden signed a Proclamation reaffirming November as National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness
Month.
November is also National Family Caregivers Month!
Serving as caregiver for someone is very hard. Family caregivers often also juggle work while also serving as caregiver. This month, let's check-in on family caregiver and extend support. If you are a caregiver and are ready to get some help, call us and we can help!

Attorneys Kathryn Casey and Helen Mesoloras presented on Medicaid Planning for Spouses, Blended Families, and Life Partners at the 17th Annual IICLE Elder Law Short Course. Their session focused on the basics of Medicaid planning for spouses in their first marriages with children in common and moved into real world problems and tackled: the thorny issues involved with Medicaid planning for second, third, and fourth marriages; considerations to the treatment of caregivers who are not spouses or children; issues with disinheriting spouses in favor of other relationships; and considerations to identifying and protecting client relationships which are not legally recognized.
