BEYOND THE GREEN GOLF TOURNAMENT

Our YMCA relies on the generosity of corporate partners and sponsors to help us maintain and expand service to everyone in our community. Thank you to our Gold, Silver & Bronze Level sponsors for making bold moves to address critical community needs in innovative ways by supporting youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

We look forward to hosting the Beyond the Green Golf Tournament at the Beaver Creek Golf Cours in Zachary on October 13. Thank you to our sponsors and committee members for your support! We are excited to announce that all teams are sold out!

NATIONAL ESTATE PLANNING

AWARENESS WEEK

Coming up the week of October 16 is National Estate Planning Awareness Week, a moment when we are encouraged to plan ahead and protect our loved ones by creating an estate plan.

In addition to protecting those you love, we want to share one powerful way you can support YMCA of the Capital Area in your estate plans that will cost you nothing during your lifetime – making a gift in your will. It’s an important way to secure the work of the Y for years to come, and allows you to create a legacy with a cause that is close to your heart.

If you don’t have an up-to-date plan, we invite you to use one of the free resources below:

If you have any questions, or are looking to connect deeper with the Y, please do not hesitate to reach out to Stacey Howell at showell@ymcabr.org.

LOUISIANA STATE CAMPAIGN

Join us for The LA SCCC Campaign kickoff  at the Charles W. Lamar Jr. YMCA, located on Third Street, on October 11, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The LA State Combined Charitable Campaign provides state employees with the valuable opportunity to support charitable causes through convenient payroll deductions. We invite all state employees to consider making a meaningful impact by choosing to donate to the Y. You can find us listed as 'The Young Men's Christian Association of the Capital Area,' and our charity code is #1112. By contributing to the Y through your payroll deduction, you help us address critical social issues and pressing problems facing communities throughout the capital area through three focus areas: youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Come to tour the newly renovated space, check out the latest equipment, receive a free Flu shot, and gain insights into our community outreach initiatives at the Y.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

This month's member spotlight is Pat Latuso! Pat is a member of the Paula G. Manship YMCA.

Pat has been a Y member since 1994 and he has been a member for the last 29 years. Some of his favorite activities at the Y are weightlifting as well as the various group exercise classes (including Body Pump, Blast, Bootcamp, and HIIT training, all at 5:15 a.m.!).

When asked about the Y, Pat says, "I think the Y is a more family-oriented facility. I see lots of parents with their kids. It’s definitely not your normal bodybuilding gym. There is something for everyone!"

ANGEL TREE

Each year, the YMCA of the Capital Area provides Christmas gifts to children in need. The gifts are collected through community members who choose an angel (child) and purchase a gift. Angels will be available at the Y beginning November 10.

Please purchase a gift between $15 - $30 and return it, unwrapped, along with the angel to any of the YMCA of the Capital Area locations. To ensure your chosen angel receives their gift, please deliver gifts to the Y by Dec. 7.

Do you know a family in need? Please encourage them to apply for our angel tree program by completing the application online. Application deadline is November 8!

If your business or organization would like to sponsor 10 or more children, please email khogan@ymcabr.org. We will provide you with names, gender, ages and wish list and even coordinate with you to pick up the gifts. All companies will be recognized through the Ys social media and newsletter.

Thank you for your continued support of our Angel Tree program!
