Starved Rock Day Hike

Saturday, June 17 | 9am

Do you enjoy exploring the great outdoors? Are you wanting to go explore the woods, slide down a mud hill, jump in a waterfall pool, hike through a sandstone canyon and witness gorgeous views of a pristine river from atop wooded mountain bluffs? Then this is the perfect event for you. A great opportunity to escape the city for the day, and enjoy some time in nature with friends this early spring. Please pack a lunch/snacks and wear good hiking shoes.

Cars will leave from St. Alphonsus Oakdale parking lot around 9:00 AM on Saturday June 17 2023. Please let us know in this Google Form if you're able to drive or if you need to carpool with someone else.

We will meet at the Starved Rock State Park Visitor Center at 10:40 am and will head out to the park, as a group, around 11am.

We'll replenish ourselves after the hike by visiting a local brewery for a cold drink and food around 2:30pm.

We will be back in the city around 4:30pm/5pm.

Theology on Tap

Wednesdays in July

Dr. Ruiz (July 5):

Title: God, Math, and the 2nd Law

Blurb: Join us as Dr. Francisco Ruiz, professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Illinois Institute of Technology, discusses the ways in which scientific knowledge can point to faith. From the need for an origin of the universe, to the vanishingly small probability that life would exist by chance, he will support the claim that it requires more faith to be an atheist than to believe in God.

Catholic Masculinity Panel (July 12):

Please join us for the first of a series of two panels exploring robust Catholic masculinity/femininity. The panelists for this first event are Fr. Steven Bauer, Br. Matt DeAngelis, Kevin Kibler, and Marty Sellers who will discuss what it means to be a Catholic man in various states of life.

Bishop Bartosic (July 19):

Title: Who am I, Really, Initiation in the Early Church

Catholic Femininity Panel (July 26):

Please join us for the second and final panel of this series exploring robust Catholic masculinity/femininity. The panelists for this event are Sr. Jess Lambert, Julia Hogan, Mary Kate Knorr, and Maricela Fajardo who will discuss what it means to be a Catholic woman in various states of life.
