Theology on Tap - Prof. Anne McGowan
Wednesday, July 24 | 7:00pm
Join us for fellowship, food, and refreshments starting at 7pm, with the speaker’s talk at 7:30pm! We encourage you to attend mass at 6pm followed by Eucharistic adoration from 6:30-7:30pm. Our speaker, Prof. Anne McGowan, Associate Professor of Liturgy at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, is the author of Eucharistic Epicleses, Ancient and Modern (2014) and co-author (with Paul Bradshaw) of The Pilgrimage of Egeria (2018), both published by Liturgical Press.
Topic: Living Presence, Living Sacrifice: Eucharistic Revival for Everyday Life
The ongoing National Eucharistic Revival urges a renewed appreciation for the power and presence of Jesus Christ in the celebration and adoration of the Eucharist, and rightly so. Truly experiencing the Eucharist as the summit of our faith, however, also involves looking to our own lives for the raw materials which contribute to our eucharistia (“thanksgiving”). We are preparing ourselves for Mass whenever we let the wonders and wounds of our lives and our world reflect the image of God. This enlivens our participation in Mass as grace-filled people eagerly awaiting further transformation in and through Christ. Finally, as the Eucharist becomes more and more the source of our faith, we are revived to become “eucharistic miracles” bearing Christ’s presence to the world.
