Worship this Sunday

Join us for worship this Sunday, June 9th as Pastor Matthew will preach from Mark 3 where Jesus is confronted by the religious authorities and his family tries to get him to stop his ministry as well. Jesus redefines who is family is and what acceptance means in a community of faith. As a community of faith today, it is good for us to still think about who is accepted and who is welcome. Gather with us for worship as we explore this concept and more.

Beginning this Sunday, we will have a one-page bulletin in worship for the summer season. We will take out a few pieces that you would normally see in the bulletin, namely the words of the scripture passage and a weekly schedule. We will print copies of the email bulletin that will have the wording for the scripture passage for those who would like to read along. Copies of those will be available alongside the bulletin on Sunday.

Watch the service live on our Facebook page at 10:30 a.m.

Free Little Neighborhood Item of the Week

Our Free Little Neighborhood Item of the week is baby supplies. Next time you’re at the store, please pick up diapers, wipes, baby food, and more so we can continue to help our neighbors.

Recognition of Pride Month

Last summer Highland became a More Light Congregation. This is a recognition within our denomination that we will, ‘work(s) for the full participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people in the life, ministry and witness of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and in society.”

This is a journey and will provide opportunities for education and growth and we recognize that not everyone is on the same part of this journey. You might have a lot of questions. Here are a few helpful links to help you understand the More Light organization.

Prayers, Concerns and Joys

Please pray for our members, families, and friends.

We lift-up prayers for those among our community who are shut in. Be with them as they are separated in body from their loved ones.

War Zones - Prayers were lifted up for all those who live in war zones all around the world and that leaders might step up to resolve the many issues leading to our current wars.

Erica Patton - Our summer intern, Erica, had a good doctor’s appointment for thyroid issues and will have a surgery later this year. Prayers for this process.

Christie Morris’ Student - We have prayed for Christie’s student, Kayden, who has a brain tumor. The biopsy came back that it is cancerous and he will begin treatment at St. Jude in Memphis later this summer.

Schenk’s Friend - Rich and Carole Schenk lift up prayers for their friend Christina whose special needs daughter, Rachel, has been moved to hospice. Prayers for them during this time.

Kemp Family - Please keep the Kemp family in your prayers at Tiera, Liz and Cordell recently lost their grandmother, Jan Josey, lovingly know as Nana. Please hold their family in your prayers during this time of loss.

Diane Hick’s Brother - Diane’s brother, Bill, was recently diagnosed with leukemia and is receiving treatment. Prayers for his treatment and all who care for him.

Homeless - Let us pray for those who do not have a safe space to stay on any given night. As warm weather approaches, let us pray for those who are forced by life’s circumstances to sleep outside or wherever they can find.

Ukraine - Let us continue to keep the people of Ukraine in our prayers as the war there continues on well past two years.

Palestine and Israel - Prayers for peace and reconciliation as the war between Palestine and Israel continues.
