Worship this Sunday

Join us for worship this Sunday, September 8th as we continue our way through the Gospel of Mark. This Sunday’s passage is one where Jesus is confronted by a mother of a sick child who begs for Jesus to help, and Jesus’ response leaves us wishing for more compassion. Jesus then heals a deaf man with a command to not tell anyone. Let’s gather around these stories to see what God is saying to us today through them.

Watch the service live on our Facebook page at 10:30 a.m.

Free Little Neighborhood Item of the Week

Our Free Little Neighborhood Item of the week is canned vegetables. Next time you’re at the grocery store, please pick up canned veggies of any variety so we can continue to feed our neighbors.

Indigenous Peace Maker at Highland

Sunday, September 15th

We are excited to announce that on Sunday, September 15th, New Providence Presbyterian and Highland will both host an Indigenous Peace Maker of the PCUSA, June L. Lorenzo. She will preach at New Providence at 9:00 am and then at Highland for the 10:30 am service.  Read more about her work by following this link

We are also excited to announce that we will have a potluck lunch in the fellowship hall following worship on the 15th so that we can have a chance to spend more time with June and enjoy fellowship together. Let Pastor Matthew or members of the Sustainability or Hospitality Committee know if you’d like to bring a dish.

Return of Adult Sunday School

Sunday, September 8th

The session of Highland has voted to bring back an adult Sunday school time starting on Sunday, September 8th. Adults will gather in the parlor for a book study as you read through the book Practicing - Changing Yourself to Change the World by Kathy Escobar. Starting at 9:00 a.m., there will be donuts and coffee available in the hallway outside the parlor, and the class will go from 9:15 - 10:00 a.m. This will be a member-led while Pastor Matthew will lead our children’s Sunday school to form a better connection with them.

If you would like to be a part of this class, you can purchase a book for $10 and there will be a sign up sheet in the back of the sanctuary starting on Sunday. You may also email Pastor Matthew to sign up.

Flowers in the Sanctuary
We have a new sign-up board on the back table in the sanctuary, where you can sign up to bring flowers to brighten the sanctuary for Sunday worship.  Please volunteer as you are able.  Flowers can be cut from the Highland garden - there is a lot in bloom right now!  We also now have vases for you to use. Questions? --- contact Kim Chaney-Bay.
