Charting New Horizons: A Story of Collaboration and Innovation
In an era where traditional print media is facing challenges, one publication in the Denver metro area is defying the odds through collaboration and innovation. OutFront Magazine (OFM), a free printed publication dedicated to local events, current topics, and issues impacting the Denver metro area and the LGBTQ+ community, found itself in a predicament familiar to many print publications: the need for additional writers, editors, and staff positions without the funding to support it.
Arapahoe/Douglas Works!, a workforce center dedicated to connecting individuals with employment opportunities and businesses with skilled workers, became involved to help. Through an encounter at a local job fair, a workforce specialist from Arapahoe/Douglas Works! connected with Addison Herron-Wheeler, co-owner of OFM, sparking a collaboration that would change the landscape of the publication.
Working closely with a business development representative from Arapahoe/Douglas Works!, OFM embarked on a journey of creating work-based learning (WBL) opportunities and on-the-job training (OJT) positions. Through the work-based learning program, OJT’s reimburse businesses up to 100% of wages associated with the cost of training. Today, 12 individuals have completed or are currently enrolled in paid work-based learning opportunities with OFM, and 31 additional participants have been referred. Continue Reading
