What is Wood Badge? Wood Badge is the culmination of basic leader training for all adult leaders in Scouting - from Cub Scouting and Boy Scouts, to Varsity and Venturing. The course emphasizes development of personal leadership, team-building, and management skills.

There are two parts to Wood Badge training: The Practical and Application phases. In the Practical phase, you will live the patrol method and experience the Scout program from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts to Venturing. Along the way you develop a better understanding of Scouting’s youth, camping, and have lots of FUN in the process! In the application phase, you will put to use the skills learned during the Practical phase by working your “ticket” - a personal plan you develop that should take at least 6 months and no more than 18 months to complete. Throughout the Wood Badge Experience, you are mentored by a staff member.

Course Learning Objectives:

  • View Scouting globally as a family of interrelated values-based programs that provide age-appropriate activities for youth.
  • Identify and practice the contemporary leadership concepts utilized in corporate America and leading government organizations that are relevant to our values based movement.
  • Apply the skills learned from your participation as a member of a successful working team.
  • Revitalize your commitment to youth by sharing in an overall inspirational experience that helps provide Scouting with the leadership it needs to accomplish its mission on an on-going basis.

If you have already taken WoodBadge, please pass this along to any Scouters you know who haven’t. Also, on Saturday, 3/30 at New England Base Camp in Milton we will be having a WoodBadge reunion dinner. This dinner is open to anyone who has taken WoodBadge anywhere at anytime. The link to register for this great night of fellowship is here.
