“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

John 4:24

12 Verses to Start the New Year

As we approach the new year it seems that we have thoughts of how we need to change our exercise program (or start one), change the way we react to situations, eating habits and many more. Every day is a gift from the Lord, and His word is one of our greatest tools for strength and victory.

As we begin year 2024 let us make it a priority to study, memorize and ponder in our hearts the precious word of God.

Lamentations 3:22-24. “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning: great is your faithfulness.”

Isaiah 43:19. “Behold, I will do a new thing: now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”

Philippians 4:4-7. “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Proverbs 3:5-6. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

1 Corinthians 15:56-57. “The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

2 Corinthians 12:10. “That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weakness, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

2 Timothy 1:7. “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”

1 Chronicles 16:11. “Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!”

Ephesians 6:12-13. “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.

Mark 12:30-31. “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength…you shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.”

John 14:27. “Do not let your heart be troubles and do not be afraid.”

Psalm 136:26. “Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.”

Ministry Opportunities

Please consider supporting the women of our church through the following opportunity.

Provide for Ruth & Naomi House

Each month, the Women of FPC provide a meal to Ruth & Naomi House, an organization that partners with ladies experiencing homelessness to offer shelter and skill development so they can overcome not having a place to live.

To provide a meal, contact Tha Berry at 706-622-1612.

We are also collecting items for the shelter! Umbrellas, laundry pods, dishwasher pods, disposable gloves, Lysol, paper towels, liquid hand soap, coffee, sugar, and powdered creamer.

Please pray for restored lives, solutions for long term care, and housing beyond shelter for these women.

We had a wonderful time reflecting on what it means to “Be Still and Know” at our annual Women’s Christmas Dinner. Special thanks to those who spoke truth over us and also to those who decorated such lovely tables.

Mandy Williams, Director of Women’s Ministry

We, the Women of FPC, are very excited that Mandy is taking the leadership role in the Women’s Ministry. This is a vital ministry in our church and we are all excited to see what God is doing in the life of our Women’s Ministry. Please pray for guidance as He leads us forward.

Mandy is married to Gardner Williams and is mother to three girls, has been a member of FPC since 2001. She has a long history of serving the Lord here at FPC. Over the years, she has served as council member, council assistant director and council director of Women’s Ministry.

She has taught classes for our women and served on both the Student Ministry Council and the Adult Discipleship

Ministry Team. Mandy has a heart and passion for discipling women. She’s led a women’s small group for many years pouring into the lives of so many.

Mandy’s office will be on the second floor in the Christian Life Center and her official start date is Jan 2, 2024. Mandy can be reached at mandyw@fpcrome.org.

Conference Overview:

We live in the age of self—the ideas of self-help, self-identifying, and do-it-yourself come up all day long. Social media, pop culture, our own flesh, and even sometimes our own Christian-based materials tell us to look within, to try harder, and to find a 3-step plan to reach our goals and realize our dreams. We quickly find, though, that naval gazing is exhausting, and we cannot conjure up the joy, meaning, and peace we sense we are meant to have.

Ephesians is a small book with big implications. Paul’s letter to the new Christians at Ephesus draws our eyes off ourselves and onto Jesus. Meditating on the grace, mercy, and lavish love of our God in heaven is the antidote to the age of self.

In sessions one and two we will soak in the goodness of our God and his kindness in saving us and making us his own. We will exult in the inheritance we have in him, his gifts of grace, and the freedom we enjoy as adopted sons and daughters. In the third session we will apply our worship and gratitude and consider how then we should live. By the close of the conference, we will be rooted in our identity as children of light—full of awe and humility, and eager to offer ourselves as fragrant offerings as our Savior did. Jesus alone is the grounds, the model, and the empowerment for how we might live as Christians in the 21st century.
