Toni Morrison is arguably the most important and original storyteller of Black identity in this country and one of the most lauded writers of the 20th century. From editor to novelist, she also wrote compelling essays and plays, inspiring a new generation of writers with her unique portrayal of the American experience.
In 1993, she was the first Black woman to win the Nobel prize for literature. In this documentary, Director Timothy Greenfield-Sanders uses archival footage and interviews with Morrison and some of the many leaders in their fields who were in her orbit to define her legacy as both writer and chronicler of the black experience.
