Now that summer is finally upon us, it's time to get outdoors! However, it's important to keep your skin health in mind whether you are headed out for a day at the beach or a day at the ball park.

Over-exposure to sunlight can cause both short-term and long-term damage to your skin, so read reading to learn more about how you can protect yourself in these summer months!

Women's Health Science Program
Applications are now open for the 2018 Women's Health Science Program (WHSP), Oncofertility Science Academy, which will be held on Friday, July 20th.

The Oncofertility Science Academy offers students the opportunity to explore the fields of reproductive science, cancer biology, and oncofertility by providing hands-on laboratory experience and clinical workshops.

Students who attend Chicago Public High Schools or affiliated charter schools that exhibit a passion for science and medicine are encouraged to apply!

WHRI Director of Science Outreach and Education, Dr. Niki Woitowich, discusses the impact of sex on pain perception and treatment in an article featured in BBC Future .

The article is the first in a series entitled "The Health Gap: How Men and Women Experience the Medical system," and focuses on sex and gender biases in healthcare.

StepUp Students Visit WHRI
Last month, the Institute welcomed 25 high school students from across the Chicagoland area to Northwestern University for a field trip focused on careers in biomedical research.

The visit was organized in collaboration with the  Step Up Women’s Network , a non-profit organization which hosts after-school programs designed to empower young women to be college-bound and career-focused.
