Women's Health Science Program - Alumnae Spotlight
British Griffis, a 2011 alumna of the Women's Health Science Program is drawing upon her experiences at Northwestern to pay it forward by inspiring the next generation of women in science and medicine. Through her work as a Peace Corps Volunteer, Griffis is partnering with local schools in rural Nepal to update STEM classrooms and curricula.

The Women's Health Research Institute and Baxter Center for Science Engagement have teamed up to donate laboratory equipment and supplies, along with other science education tools and materials to support British's efforts.

If you are interested in donating science books, equipment, supplies, or are willing to contribute to shipping costs, please contact Dr. Niki Woitowich at nicole.woitowich@northwestern.edu

Sex-Inclusive Research
NIH Resource for Considering Sex as a Variable
The National Institutes of Health Office of Intramural Research published an informational video highlighting the responsible conduct of research, in order to improve scientific rigor and reproducibility.

The video contains a scenario in which an investigator failed to consider sex as a a biological variable, and describes what happens when this important variable is left out of experimental design and analyses.

Leadership Council Awardees
Please join us in congratulating two members of the WHRI Leadership Council on their recent accomplishments.

Dr. Melissa Simon received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring , for her outstanding work promoting the next generation of leaders in science and medicine.

Dr. Rosalind Ramsey-Goldman was awarded the Paula H. Stern Award for Outstanding Women in Science and Medicine . This award was established by the Department of Pharmacology in conjunction with the Women's Faculty Organization to recognize female faculty members who have made a significant contribution to the their field of research and who serve as outstanding role models and mentors.

Please join us on Tuesday, July 17th for the next Women's Health Research Forum featuring Dr. Marla Mendelson, Director of the Women’s Cardiology Center for the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute at Northwestern University, who will speak to us about Heart Disease and Pregnancy: Past, Present, and Futur e.

Monthly Forums are held from 12:00 - 1:00 PM in Prentice Women's Hospital (3rd Floor Conference Room L).
