Women United Annual Meeting

On Thursday, August 2, members of Women United held our second Annual Luncheon. We celebrated accomplishments and announced the projects planned for next year.

Union Home Mortgage partnered with Women United this year to help collect money and purchase school supplies, donating $1,270.00 and bags of school supplies for our Stuff the Bookbags event,

Over 200 bookbags were filled with school supplies and delivered to the Salvation Army as well as to the Mount Vernon Municipal Courts  to be given to eligible children. Thank you to all of the ladies of Women United who volunteered their resources to help with this initiative.

Event information and photo gallery are available on our website.

Women United Campaign Kickoff Event
As part of our United Way Campaign Kick Off Week, Women United members met on  September 11 at 3:30 p.m at The Winter Sanctuary where they learned about United Way's new afterschool tutoring and enrichment programs offered in Elementary schools in Knox County and contributed to cleaning up the shelter!

At this volunteer round-up, Women United members were introduced to the East and Dan Emmett Elementary School afterschool tutoring and enrichment programs.  The programs offer a hot meal, homework help and exposure to new activities such as Zumba, Yoga, crafts, and board games to students who are at risk of falling behind in their academics.  The programs depend on volunteers - tutors and enrichment visitors - in order to be successful. Ladies learned more about the program from East Eagles' Nest coordinator Marilyn Nagy and signed up to volunteer throughout the school year.

Hand-on volunteering preparing The Winter Sanctuary for guests at the September 13 United We Sleep Campaign Kick-Off Week event. Women United members cleaned the interior of the shelter and gardened. Thank you for your efforts so that the shelter was at its best for the community guests.

ROX Growing in Popularity

Students are back to school, which means the co-curricular program Ruling Our experiences (ROX) is back as well. This year, East Knox school district will for the first time be offering ROX to students. They will be working closely with United Way and our partner agency New Directions to offer both ROX and Coaching Boys into Men programs in East Knox Schools.

With East Knox joining the ROX movement, the program now reaches all public school districts in Knox County. This popular program teaches healthy relationship skills, communication, body image, and stress management. It also includes a self-defense component, introducing girls to body language, verbal skills, and physical force as methods of self defense.

United Way 2018 Campaign

I am humbled by your commitment you have shown through your donations, activities and fundraising to make Women United a success and a leader in our region. This year Women United will be investing over $60,000.00 into programs that will touch the lives of so many individuals and show them that Women United cares and we are a powerful force in Knox County to create change.

Our United Way Campaign theme this year is "Hear our Stories, your gift changes their stories." At United Way and at our partner agencies, we hear these stories over and over again. They are emotional, uplifting, inspiring and humbling. They occur because of the financial gifts that our donors provide to United Way. Your gift CAN change their story.

Please remember to think of United Way as we raise $1,150,000.00 to fund programs in Education, Health and Financial Stability. Your donation enables United Way to continue to fight drug abuse, domestic abuse, provide medical assistance to mothers with newborn children, the list goes on and on. Please login to our Investment Agenda to see how we are investing in our community.

Join us and LIVE UNITED.
Your gift will continue to change stories all over Knox County.

Warmest Regards,
