Women in Recovery Breakfast
Our third annual Women in Recovery Breakfast was held on Thursday, June 21st  in the Garden Room at The Alcove. It was a gathering of strong women as our Women Uni ted members joined sisters at The Freedom Center in celebrating their continued sobriety.
We had a wonderful turnout and our attendance keeps growing! We were treated to an update of the status of Recovery House some very strong women shared stories of their personal journeys with us.
Images from the event are available on  Facebook . The Next Recovery Breakfast is planned for  Thursday, September 20 at 7:30 A.M. in the Garden Room at the Alcove Restaurant.

Thank You from Our ROX girls
We agree, Danville ROCKS, United Way offices received a special Thank You note from the Danville ROX Girls.

Centerburg Elementary School,
Danville Elementary,  Middle, and  High Schools,
Fredericktown Middle School,
Knox County Career Center,
Mount Vernon Middle School,

The program uses an evidence-based 20-week curriculum to help girls develop the skills needed to navigate their relationships, experiences, and decisions with confidence. Our program coordinator, Elizabeth Doolittle, recently visited the  ROX  training facility to attend  Ruling Our eXperiences  facilitator training  in Columbus To learn more about the program, reach out to  Elizabeth read the Girls' Index online, and visit our website .

Coaching Boys into Men
New to United Way's Investment Agenda in 2018, Coaching Boys into Men (CBiM) is administered by our  partner agency, New Directions. Representatives from New Directions train and support program facilitators. In CBiM, young men learn healthy relationship skills, through a curriculum which uses sports analogies and is administered in a team or group setting by a trusted adult (sports coach, guidance counselor, etc).
The evidence-based programming that addresses masculinity, aggression, consent, digital disrespect, and other topics, to create school climates that promote the developing and maintaining healthy relationships with all peer groups.
Guidance Counselors in Danville High School were the first to pilot the program. In June, New Directions hosted a facilitator training to spread the program to more of Knox County's young men

A program overview and facilitator training is planned for August 9, contact Lori@NewDirestionsShelter.org for more information.

United Way 2018 Campaign
Kicks Off the Week of September 10

Ladies,

I am humbled by your commitment you have shown through your donations, activities and fundraising to make Women United a success and a leader in our region. This year Women United will be investing over $60,000.00 into programs that will touch the lives of so many individuals and show them that Women United cares and we are a powerful force in Knox County to create change.

Our United Way Campaign theme this year is "Hear our Stories, your gift changes their stories." At United Way and at our partner agencies, we hear these stories over and over again. They are emotional, uplifting, inspiring and humbling. They occur because of the financial gifts that our donors provide to United Way. Your gift CAN change their story.

Please remember to think of United Way as we raise $1,150,000.00 to fund programs in Education, Health and Financial Stability. Your donation enables United Way to continue to fight drug abuse, domestic abuse, provide medical assistance to mothers with newborn children, the list goes on and on. Please login to our Investment Agenda to see how we are investing in our community.

Join us and LIVE UNITED.
Your gift will continue to change stories all over Knox County.

Warmest Regards,
Kelly

Women United Campaign Kickoff Event
As part of our United Way Campaign Kick Off Week, Women United members are invited to join in a volunteer round-up at East Elementary School on September 11 at 3:30 p.m.
Piloted in the 2017-2018 school year, Eagles' Nest afterschool tutoring and enrichment program at  East Elementary quickly became both much loved by both students and teachers. The program offers a hot meal, homework help and exposure to new activities such as Zumba, Yoga, crafts, and board games to students who are at risk of falling behind in their academics. Standardized test scores and teacher testimonials show the program makes an impact! Encouraged by the pilot program at East, we are growing the Education initiative to include a  new program at Dan Emmett in the 2018-2019 school year following the Eagles' Nest model.

The programs depend on volunteers - tutors and enrichment visitors - in order to be successful. Invest in our children's future. Come to the volunteer round-up to learn more about the program and learn how you can get involved.
United Way has exciting activities planned throughout the full week of September 10. The week culminates on the 14th with the Kick-Off Luncheon at MVNU and the United We Brew happy hour event at The Stein Brewing Company Tap Room.
