Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program Celebrates National Nutrition Month® with Expanded Services and Educational Series

Calhoun County, MI - As part of National Nutrition Month®, the Calhoun County Public Health Department's Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program proudly joins the nationwide celebration of National Nutrition Month®. This annual campaign, led by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, emphasizes the importance of making informed food choices and developing healthy eating habits. As we all know, good nutrition is the foundation of a healthy life, and WIC is committed to providing high-quality nutrition services to families in need. This March, we are excited to highlight the importance of healthy eating and the many ways that WIC can support families in making healthy choices. From nutritious food packages to breastfeeding support and nutrition education, WIC is here to help families thrive. Here are 20 Health Tips for National Nutrition Month

With a renewed focus on nutrition education and support, we are thrilled to introduce new walk-in appointment hours and an informative new series designed to empower expecting mothers and families. Our Battle Creek office now offers convenient walk-in appointment hours every Thursday from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. This expansion aims to improve access to essential WIC services, including nutrition counseling, breastfeeding support, and access to nutritious foods for eligible families.

In addition to our expanded walk-in hours, we are excited to launch a new two-part educational series called "Ready, Set, Baby!" This series is specifically designed to help expecting mothers and families prepare for the arrival of their new baby. Covering a range of topics including prenatal care, newborn nutrition, and postnatal support, "Ready, Set, Baby!" is a comprehensive resource for parents-to-be. Visit the calhouncountymi.gov WIC page for more information.

"We want to empower women to make informed decisions during pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and breastfeeding. Being a new parent has its ups and downs, and this series will help families know what to expect. It is facilitated by breastfeeding peer counselors who will continue to offer support to parents throughout their journey. We are excited to offer Ready, Set, Baby to all Calhoun County families!" - Emily Lyke, WIC Supervisor

The "Ready, Set, Baby!" series will take place on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Calhoun County Public Health Department. We are pleased to extend a warm invitation to all expecting parents in the community to participate in this series, regardless of WIC program enrollment.

The Calhoun County Public Health Department's WIC program provides essential nutrition services and support to eligible families in the community. Through education, counseling, and access to nutritious foods, we strive to empower families to make healthy choices and thrive.
