Fourth graders enjoyed some quiet time with Jesus at Eucharistic Adoration last week. | |
The O'Reilly Minute
Dear Parents,
Thank you for attending last week’s Curriculum Nights. It was wonderful to see everyone and to discuss the exciting plans we have for our students this year.
The family directory is now accessible via your FACTS account (district code SBK-OH). You can find it on the left side menu under “School.” If any of your information needs updating, please make the changes in FACTS or reach out to Meredith Dorley at mrs.dorley@stbrigid-school.org
We also have a staff update to share. Bruce McKenna has decided to resign from his position as School Safety Director to pursue a new opportunity that offers him the flexibility of working three days a week. We sincerely thank Bruce for his many years of service and dedication to our school and parish community. We are actively working with several professionals in the field to fill this important role as soon as possible so there is little to no lag in coverage. Please be assured that our staff is well-trained every year in security and safety procedures, and all of our safety protocols and equipment will continue to be used to keep our community safe.
Please note that we will conduct our first school safety drill with the students this Friday, September 13th. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to me or your child’s teacher.
Thank you to our SPICE committee for helping to kick off our school theme, "Seeds of Hope." We have a wonderful slideshow for you to review in the SPICE article below. Please take some time to read through and explore the provided resources and ideas designed to help your child cope with change and any back-to-school anxiety they might be feeling.
In celebration of inclusion and belonging, SPICE is sponsoring a St. Brigid Spiritwear/School Colors Dress Down Day on September 20th. Be sure to mark your calendars!
On this national Patriot Day, we remember in our prayers the victims, survivors, and families of the September 11 attacks. We continue to pray for peace and, in Pope Francis's words, ask God to "Grant us peace, teach us peace; guide our steps in the way of peace."
Blessings,
Kathy O’Reilly

SPiCE Awareness: Back to School Feelings
The kids are back to school, and the routine has begun. School starting brings a lot of different emotions. We can be excited, scared, nervous, worried, sad, happy, or a combination of all these feelings and more. Back to School anxiety is a real thing, and an important topic to talk with kids about. They can be excited for the new year, seeing friends again, and all the great memories that are ahead, but still struggle with the new experiences too, whether it's a different teacher, new classmates, a different hallway, or just the expectations of their new grade level. We at SPiCE want to support each child, and help them plant wonderful Seeds of Hope for the new year.
Hope means to have confidence or trust, to desire something to happen, or consider it possible. Hope is an important lesson, and is an amazing gift that God has given us --from the rainbow and olive branch that God gave Noah after the flood, the anchor from the book of Hebrews that gives us steadfast hope in a world that feels rough, the lamb that is a symbol of sacrifice and the hope of redemption, to the ultimate symbol of hope the cross. As it says in the Gospel of John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, as to give his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him may not perish, but may have life everlasting." God gave us this wonderful world to love, grow, and connect with one another -- a place for us all to belong.
Our hope for each day, each hour, and each minute helps us to grow closer to one another and more importantly closer to God. One day is 24 hours, 1,440 minutes, and 86,400 seconds. Imagine how amazing our world would be with a seed of hope being planted each second of the day. So let's plant a seed of hope in each of us and watch it grow. Know that things may be different, they may be hard at times, but by having hope and trusting that God will be there with us we can accomplish amazing things.
Please see below the SPICE slideshow below on Back to School tips and coping with change. This is our topic of focus for children during the first month of school.

Congrats Fall Wolfhounds!
There were many athletic announcements from our Wolfhounds this past weekend:
8th Grade Girls Volleyball
The 8th grade girls varsity volleyball team played a thrilling double header in their opening weekend of the regular season on Saturday (9/7), winning both games. Their first game against Immaculate Conception was a tough 3 set match to get the win, and in their second game against St. Cecelia, they came back from a 10 point deficit to take the second set and win the match in straight sets!
The girls played with tenacity, grace, teamwork, and resilience. They held each other up and stayed positive throughout both games.
Congratulations to our team members who attend St. Brigid school - Maeve Baumgartner, Gia Lombardi, Victoria Nocco, Mel Prevedello, Anabelle Robinson, Mary Schilling and Sarah Ziegler.
Varsity Football
The Wolfhound varsity football team won their homecoming game 19-7 on Sunday. The offensive and defensive lines bullied the green waive all day. Also, Congratulations to our 8th graders who were honored in pregame yesterday. Great job cheerleader Isabelle Meadows, and football players Declan, Ronan, Luke, Griffin, Danny, Sam, Vinney, Reid, Frankie, Mitch, Wyatt, and Collin. Good luck next Sunday vs. St. Brendan!
6th Grade Girls Volleyball
The team had some great weeks of practices leading up to this first weekend games as BOTH games were a battle & tight, but they dug deep and persevered to Victories and currently sit at 2 & 0! Congratulations to teammates Sofia Susi, Morgan Funkhouser, Shelby Kiedrowski, Morgan Spiers, Piper Allen, Ella Wood, Emersyn Cohen, Frankie Nation, Ava Dodson, Joann Alexander, Maddie Medve, and Marley Erickson.
