The O'Reilly Minute

Dear Parents,

I hope your family has been enjoying the many blessings of summer! One of the blessings of summer is fresh fruits and vegetables from the garden.  Our Garden Club has been meeting weekly to care for our school garden and we even have several watermelons growing bigger each day and we can’t wait to try them!

We have been working hard to prepare for the next school year. Please see below important information regarding bus transportation, a SPICE committee meeting, and unfortunately a few scams.  We are still looking for a few teachers and aides to join our staff. We would appreciate any networking that you might be able to do to invite interested educators to join our amazing school. Please see the story below for more information.

The next issue of Wolfhound Wednesday will have more information regarding our 2024-2025 school theme “Seeds of Hope,” staff updates, and back to school information.

Please mark your calendar for our back to school week schedule. Please note that we have changed the alphabet groupings for our staggered start days.

Sun, August 18   New family breakfast (Grades 1 - 8)

Tues, August 20   Kindergarten WOW ( please see your letter for details about time)

Tues, August 20 Meet The Teacher 4:00 - 6:00 pm (Grades 1 - 8)

Scam Impersonating St. Brigid Home & School

We have been receiving scam emails from someone impersonating people from our Home and School Committee.  These emails come from several made-up email accounts -- the "from" name may have a parent's name, but the "from" email address has a variety of made up addresses. These emails usually ask for a favor, and if you engage with the sender, he/she may ask you to use your Venmo or Zelle account or purchase gift cards and send the pin or bar code to him/her.

Please be assured that no one from Home and School would never reach out about using your own payment account and then reimburse you via email or phone. Any emails coming from St. Brigid of Kildare Parish staff will end in the @stbrigidofkildare.org email address, emails coming from St. Brigid of Kildare School staff will end in the @stbrigid-school.org email address, and emails coming from Diocese of Columbus staff will end in the @columbuscatholic.org email address.

Unfortunately we have seen this in all areas of the parish. Please always ensure if you receive an email or phone call from someone you don’t know or a staff member that seems inaccurate, please check that it came from an organizational account, and/or call the school at 614-718-5825 if you have any concerns. Thank you for your understanding.

SPiCE Committee Meeting July 25

All are welcome to attend the next SPiCE Committee Meeting this Thursday, July 25 at 6:00 PM in the Kelty Library of Hendricks Hall.

This will kick-off planning and ideas for our 2024-25 school year. SPiCE (Special People in Catholic Education) supports the education of children with special learning needs in our parish and school. We value each student’s unique spiritual, intellectual, physical, social, cultural, and emotional needs. Each child in our parish is a child of God, and our program supports the educational needs of all children as we strive to serve a variety of learning styles which provides diversity in the classroom environment.

Hilliard School's First Time Riders Event

For Hilliard City School families with students who are first-time bus riders, there will be an event on Saturday, August 10 from 8 am - 12 pm at Weaver Middle School to learn about bus safety, explore a bus, and more! You can take photos of your little one's first bus ride and share their experience.

News from Our Parish & Community

Scam Impersonating Bishop Fernandes

An increasing number of social media accounts posing as Bishop Earl Fernandes are targeting individuals online and requesting money.

“We were made aware of several social media accounts that were impersonating him, asking people directly for money, or to do personal favors, directly through messages,” said Andrew Zuk, the associate director for the Office of Communications.

“We’ve reported it. We’ve asked anybody who sees these accounts to report them and to not click any links that they might have.”

The fake social media accounts appear to be targeting older adults or retirees, he said. Actors also often prey on individuals with perceived less technology experience.

To read more about this scam, read the article from the Catholic Times here.
