Cove Street Arts presents Here & There, featuring the works of 16 established artists, bridging New York and Maine. Curated by David Row, the exhibition shows the phenomenon: “Since the early 1800s, artists have been drawn to Maine for its rugged coastline, its mysterious, primeval-feeling forests, and its magnificent quality of light. Later, Modernists such as Marsden Hartley, John Marin, Max Weber, and Marguerite and William Zorach made their summer homes here, establishing a trend that continued, post-World War II, when Maine became an annual destination for New York artists seeking respite and rejuvenation from the grit and the fast-flashing pace of the city.” Artists include: David Row, Dozier Bell, Katherine Bradford, William Conlon, Ken Greenleaf, Charlie Hewitt, Yvonne Jacquette, Cecily Kahn, David Kapp, Stephen Maine, Nancy Manter, Gelah Penn, Winston Roeth, Claire Seidl, Peter Soriano and Don Voisine. Cove Street Arts is located at 71 Cove Street, Portland, Maine, and is open Monday – Friday from 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The space is closed Sundays. Berta Walker Gallery highlights the work of Cynthia Packard, Varujan Boghosian and Paul Resika through August 14. Berta Walker Gallery has been presenting works by American artists and Provincetown Modernists each year, since 1990. Their motto “the History of American Art as seen through the eyes of Provincetown,” perfectly complements the variety of mediums the three artists featured over the next few weeks explore: collage, construction, painting and mixed media. The gallery remembers Boghosian, (1926–2020) in Hearts, Flowers, Humor a collection of his constructions and collages, as well as collaborations with Resika that the two created together over the past 30 years. In addition to the pair's collaborative works, Resika’s solo paintings in Flowers will be on display, as well as Packard's recent paintings in Evolutions of Mood. The exhibition opens Saturday, July 24. Berta Walker Gallery is located at 208 Bradford Street, Provincetown, Massachusetts. WaterFire Arts Center presents Eye To Eye: Photographs and Projects by Mary Beth Meehan. Meehan photographs the diverse American landscape and experience, built by the people within. Meehan “urge[s] us into a new regard for one another – across differences of race, class, culture, or religion.” The photographs from the artist’s in-depth projects in her hometown explore Brockton, Massachusetts; Providence, Rhode Island; Newnan, Georgia and Silicon Valley, California, offering a “much needed re-examination of our society’s failure to assure equity and justice for all.” The WaterFire Arts Center is located at 475 Valley Street, Providence, Rhode Island. The introduction of new artist work space and community exhibition area in Fenway Studios. This is first architectural revision ever made to the 116 year old National Historic Landmark.
There will be an "unfurling" of a 500 foot long fence mesh mural designed by Fenway Studios alumnus artist, Denise Lindquist, http://deniselindquist.com.
This captivating mural will be installed in front of Fenway Studios running nearly the full length of Ipswich Street
