WCC Opposes Sanctuary City Prohibition Bill
On December 17, the WCC testified in opposition to Senate Bill 151 (Sen. Steve Nass, R-Whitewater), which prohibits political subdivisions from enacting a policy that prohibits the enforcement of a federal or state law relating to undocumented immigrants, or from ascertaining whether an individual has satisfactory immigration status. The amended bill also requires a political subdivision to comply with a lawful detainer that is issued by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Finally, SB 151 authorizes the attorney general or the appropriate district attorney, sheriff, or local resident to file a writ of mandamus with the circuit court to require compliance with the requirements created by the bill if he or she believes that the political subdivision is failing to comply with the requirements. The committee passed the bill on a party-line vote and the bill is now available for a floor vote.

WCC Supports Stillbirth Tax Credit Bill
On December 18, the WCC testified in support of Senate Bill 114 (Sen. Alberta Darling, R-River Hills), which creates a refundable individual income tax credit of $2,000 that may be claimed by the parents of a stillborn child. The committee took no further action on the bill.
