Tuesday Primary Election results

Statewide office and legislative primary elections were held throughout the state on Tuesday.


Below are the winners of notable races:


  • Both constitutional amendments were rejected.
  • 58.2% of voters voted against the amendments while 41.8% voted in favor.


  • Rebecca Cooke (Eau Claire) won the 3rd CD Democratic nomination.
  • Cooke defeated state Rep. Katrina Shankland with 47.2% of the vote compared to Shankland’s 43.8%.


  • Tony Wied (Suamico) won the Republican 8th CD Primary.
  • Wied collected 38.7% of the vote to Roger Roth’s 37.1% and state Sen. Andre Jacque’s 24.2%.


  • Rep. Janel Brandtjen only non-paired incumbent to lose a primary.


  • Three paired incumbent races decided.
  • Rep. Elijah Behnke (R-Oconto) won against Rep. Peter Schmidt (R-Bonduel) in the 6th AD.
  • Rep. Nate Gustafson (R-Fox Crossing) defeated Rep. Michael Schraa (R-Oshkosh).
  • Rep. John Spiros (R-Marshfield) defeated Rep. Donna Rozar (R-Marshfield) in AD 86.

NYT/Siena College and Cook Political Report release new presidential polls

The New York Times/Siena College and Cook Political Report announced new polling with Vice President Kamala Harris with an edge over former President Donald Trump. The New York Times/Siena College released a new poll finding Vice President Kamala Harris with a lead in Wisconsin against former President Donald Trump. In a head-to-head matchup, 50% of Wisconsin registered voters favored Vice President Harris while 46% supported former President Trump. With third party candidates, Vice President Harris still lead with 49%, former President Trump at 42%, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at 6%. The New York Times/Siena College polled 661 registered voters between August 5-8. The margin of error was +/- 4.3 percentage points. FiveThirtyEight rates the New York Times/Siena College the nation’s top pollster with three stars out of three.


The Cook Political Report also found Vice President Harris ahead in a head-to-head matchup with 49% of likely Wisconsin voters in favor of her while 46% back former President Trump. In a multi-candidate race, Vice President Harris still leads with 48% while former President Trump trails with 43%. Cook Political Report collaborated with GS Strategy Group and BSG polling. They polled 404 likely Wisconsin voters from July 26-Aug. 2. The margin of error was +/- 4.9 percentage points. FiveThirtyEight rates GS Strategy Group 1.5 stars out of three.

Harris releases new ad

Vice President Kamala Harris released a new ad on the southern border. The ad will run on local broadcast and cable television. The ad responds to Republican criticisms of her actions regarding the border while Vice President. She vows for thousands of more agents and to crack down on fentanyl and human trafficking. The narrator says, “Fixing the border is tough. So is Kamala Harris.”

NYT/Siena College and Cook Political Report release new senate polls

The New York Times/Siena College and Cook Political Report polled Wisconsin’s U.S. Senate race in addition to their presidential polling. The New York Times/Siena College’s poll showed that U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D) had 51% support from registered voters in Wisconsin, and businessman Eric Hovde (R) had 43%. The New York Times/Siena College polled 661 registered voters between August 5-8. The margin of error was +/- 4.3 percentage points. FiveThirtyEight rates the New York Times/Siena College the nation’s top pollster with three stars out of three.

Hovde releases two ads

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Eric Hovde launched two ads featuring his work through Hovde Homes. The organization rescues children from human trafficking. The ads are running on TV and digital platforms. The first ad has his wife Sharon Hovde explain Hovde Homes and says Eric Hovde’s life and priorities changed after he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in his twenties. “MS changed Eric’s life, and thousands of children are alive today because of it,” she says.

The second ad features two of his employees who help to rescue children from human trafficking, helps single mothers, and funds food banks. Sharon Hovde appears in this ad as well, saying “That man is my husband Eric, and he’ll fight for you just like he fights for them.”

Americans for Prosperity Action launches new ads

Americans for Prosperity Action released two new TV ads this week supporting GOP U.S. Senate candidate Eric Hovde while also targeting U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D). The first ad says Hovde will make “sensible decisions” because he understands what American families are experiencing. “When you need to fix the economy, you take it to a businessman,” a woman from Sheboygan says.

The second ad knocks Sen. Baldwin for voting for the Inflation Reduction Act “Tammy has failed on the issues,” says a woman from Tigerton.

Restoration PAC launches new ad

Restoration PAC released a new TV ad knocking U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D) for her border policies. The ad highlights Steve Nasholm, who passed away when Jorge Sanchez-Tzanahua, who was not in the country legally, collided with his car while driving drunk. The narrator of the ad says his three daughters don’t have a father anymore, saying “Tragedies like this happen because liberals like Tammy Baldwin kept our borders wide open.”

One Nation releases new ad

Super PAC One Nation released a new ad targeting U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D). The ad will run on broadcast and cable TV, radio, and digital platforms. Their ad highlights Sen. Baldwin voting nine times for federal funding for sanctuary cities and eleven times for amnesty. The narrator of the ad talks about a man who was in the country illegally and was arrested for battery in Madison. Instead of deportation, he was released and assaulted more women, including a 13-year-old girl. The narrator ends the ad, “Tell Senator Baldwin, stop protecting illegal immigrants and start protecting Wisconsin.”
