Florida-breds Munnys Gold, Spirit Wind Ones to Beat in Honorable Miss

Florida-breds Munnys Gold and Spirit Wind are the morning line favorites among eight fillies and mares set for the Grade 3 Honorable Miss Handicap at Saratoga Race Course Wednesday. While Munnys Gold is the 2-1 program favorite and Spirit Wind is listed as the 3-1 second choice, neither have been assigned to carry the top weight in the six-furlong contest with a purse of $200,000.

Wedgworth Leaders Learn About Thoroughbred Significance in Florida

The Wedgworth Leadership Institute for Agriculture and Natural Resources held its annual Straughn Seminar at the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association on July 18. FTBOA Associate Vice President of Membership Services and Events Tammy A. Gantt shared the economic impact of the industry with participants, its importance when approaching legislators and how the economics of a racetrack and incentive programs work for breeders, owners and stakeholders.

Milton S. Hendry


Florida Horseman Milton S. Hendry Passes Away at Age 82

Long-time Florida horseman Milton S. Hendry passed away in Crystal River, Fla., on Thursday, June 27. He was 82.


The native of Bay Springs, Miss., loved horses all his life and first became professionally involved with show horses, reining horses and barrel racing.

Jockey Julien R. Leparoux is approaching a personal milestone of 3,000 Thoroughbred career wins in North America (US and Canada). Through Tuesday, July 23, Leparoux was at 2,991 wins. He has one scheduled mount at Saratoga Race Course on Wednesday.
