Increases in Total Handle, Field Size Highlight Tampa Bay Downs Season

OLDSMAR, FL-Before the 2023-2024 meet, Tampa Bay Downs received a $5.5-million allocation from the state of Florida for purses and operations. Officials earmarked 90% for overnight purses, enabling the track to lure its strongest roster of trainers, jockeys and horses in recent memory.

Four Florida-breds To Go in Royal Palm Juvenile Fillies

A quartet of Florida-breds are among a dozen 2-year-old fillies entered for Saturday's $100,000 Royal Palm Juvenile Fillies at Gulfstream Park, which offers a travel stipend and an invitation to one of six juvenile stakes at Royal Ascot in Great Britain later this summer. The four Florida-bred fillies will be running for an additional $20,000 Top 3 bonus presented by the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association.

OBS June Sale Catalog Now Online

OCALA, FL-The catalog for the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2024 June Two-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age Sale is now available via the OBS website. The sale and under tack show were each shifted to start one day earlier than originally scheduled to allow inspection and travel time for those attending Belmont Stakes weekend held this year at Saratoga.

Strangles Confirmed in St. Lucie County

According to the Equine Disease Communication Center and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, a private facility in St. Lucie County in Florida has been placed under quarantine by the FDACS as of May 8 due a horse testing positive for strangles.
