Florida-bred Hades Upsets Champion Fierceness to Win Holy Bull

Hades Earns $10,000 FTBOA Florida-bred Top 3 Bonus


Florida-bred Hades repelled 2-year-champion Fierceness coming out of the far turn to upset the Grade 3 Holy Bull at Gulfstream Park Saturday and earn 20 qualifying points for the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve. Winning at odds of 9-1, Hades was the best of seven 3-year-olds who went a mile-and-a-sixteenth in pursuit of the winner’s share of the $250,000 purse.

Hades also picked up a $10,000 Florida-bred Top 3 bonus presented by the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association.

R Harper Rose, Fiona’s Magic, Chi Chi Split $20,000 FTBOA Florida-bred Top 3 Bonus Money



Florida-bred R Harper Rose made an easy task of winning the Grade 3 Forward Gal at Gulfstream Park Saturday with a two-length victory ahead of fellow Florida-breds Fiona’s Magic in second and third-place finisher Chi Chi.

R Harper Rose banked $86,725 in winning the seven-furlong test against five other 3-year-old fillies, including the winner’s share of the $125,000 purse and a $10,000 Top 3 Florida-bred bonus presented by the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association.

Cellars Shiraz Upsets the Herecomesthebride at Gulfstream Park




2002 – Florida-bred Cellars Shiraz won the first added-money test of her career in the second start of her sophomore year by taking the Grade 3 Herecomesthebride at Gulfstream Park for owner Bitterroot Investments Inc.

Ridden by Cornelio Velasquez for trainer William Cesare in the mile-and-one-sixteenth turf test, Cellars Shiraz sat just off frontrunning August Storm until deep stretch when the daughter of Kissin Kris darted to the front to win by a length-and-a-quarter at odds of 18-1, paying $39.40 to win.

Jockey Scott Spieth is approaching a personal milestone of 5,000 Thoroughbred career wins in North America (US and Canada). Through racing Saturday, Feb. 3, Spieth was at 4,997 wins. He has one mount Wednesday at Tampa Bay Downs.
