This Day in Florida-bred History

October 15

1969 – Ta Wee, a daughter of Intentionally out of Aspidistra, by Better Self and the half-sister to 1968 Horse of the Year Dr. Fager, becomes the first filly to win the Interborough Handicap at Belmont Park, carrying 124 pounds.* It was the first of two Interborough Handicap victories for Ta Wee, who won the 1970 edition while carrying 142 pounds.

Owned and bred by William L. McKnight under the banner of his Tartan Farms Corp., Ta Wee would be named the champion sprinter of 1969 and 1970 and is a member of the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame.
