Florida-bred R Harper Rose Favored in Azalea

Averill Racing and Two Eight Racing LLC's R Harper Rose is the 8-5 morning line favorite as she looks to rebound in the $75,000 Azalea at Gulfstream Park Saturday.


The Florida-bred daughter of Khozan will make her first start since finishing 11th in the Grade 2 Eight Belles won by My Mane Squeeze at Churchill Downs when she goes to the post with six other 3-year-old fillies in the seven furlong contest.


R Harper Rose, Stiletto Heels and Fields of Green will also be running for an additional $20,000 bonus for registered Florida-breds presented by the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association.

Florida-bred Crystal Quest To Challenge Fulmineo Again in Boston Stakes

Second to Fulmineo in the $100,000 James W. Murphy on the turf at Pimlico on May 18, Florida-bred Crystal Quest will try to avenge that loss in a rematch Saturday in the $125,000 Boston for 3-year-olds at Colonial Downs. Eight sophomores have entered the one-mile test on the grass.

Jockey Julien R. Leparoux is approaching a personal milestone of 3,000 Thoroughbred career wins in North America (US and Canada). Through the 5th race at Saratoga Race Course Thursday, July 12, Leparoux was at 2,991 wins. He has two more scheduled mounts for Friday and one mount Saturday, all at Saratoga.

Trainer George Weaver is approaching a personal milestone of 1,000 Thoroughbred career wins in North America (US and Canada). Through racing Friday July 12, Weaver was at 996 wins. He has two horses entered at Saratoga Race Course on Saturday and two at Monmouth Park on Saturday.
