Winter Village FAQ: How many skaters can fit on the ice rink?
Before you head out to Winter Village at Orenco Station Plaza, get answers to 20 frequently-asked questions (FAQ) . The ice rink can hold up to 85 skaters. Other FAQ questions include:

- Can I pre-purchase tickets?

- Is the ice real?

- Can I rent the ice rink for a private party?

North Hillsboro's free shuttle service
The North Hillsboro Link shuttle bus service launched this month, providing free rides to and from the Orenco Station MAX stop. The route connects employees and employers on the north and south sides of Highway 26.

Hillsboro School Board supports
North Hillsboro Industrial Renewal Plan
In a letter on behalf of the Hillsboro School District Board of Directors, Chair Wayne Clift called the North Hillsboro Industrial Renewal Area "the best, fastest way to spur development and generate additional funding for our district and schools across the state."

Upcoming open house will focus on Downtown Hillsboro
Get involved in Downtown Hillsboro's future by sharing your thoughts about the continued revitalization of the historic center of our community. Attend the open house on Tuesday, January 12, from 5-7 pm at the Hillsboro Civic Center, Room 113 B & C .

Apply for the Hillsboro Police Department's Citizens' Academy by January 21
Get a first-hand look at how Hillsboro Police Department officers make decisions by attending the 2016 HPD Citizens' Academy. Classes run 12 weeks on Thursday evenings, starting on February 4.

More great news!
  • Toy and Joy collection barrels at Hillsboro fire stations and other community locations will be collected this week. All donated toys and food items will be delivered to the Hillsboro Elks Lodge. Volunteers from the Elks Lodge and Hillsboro Fire Department volunteers will then deliver gift baskets to families needing assistance.
  • The Library Foundation of Hillsboro presented a $166,666 check to Mayor Willey this week, continuing the Foundation's ongoing support for major capital projects, including the Main Library and the Shute Park Branch Library.
  • The Hillsboro Public Library is collecting food and cash donations for the Oregon Food Bank until December 31. 
  • More than 40 community partners, City staff, and volunteers gathered this month to kickoff implementation of the Hillsboro 2035 Community Plan. Many attendees are new participants in Hillsboro's visioning program. The Hillsboro 2035 Oversight Committee will follow up with its inaugural meeting in January.
  • The 12th Annual Water Conservation Calendars, created by Hillsboro students, is now available at the Hillsboro Civic Center. Visit the Hillsboro Water Department on the third floor to get a free copy.
  • Washington County will close SW 229th Ave. at the Butternut Creek Bridge, between SE Noble St. and SW Rosa Rd., for repairs between December 21-23 or December 28-30, depending on weather.
  • The Hillsboro City Council presented 2015-16 Community Service Grants totaling $100,000 this week to 31 local nonprofits and community groups.
  • Hillsboro residents and business owners can take part in the Washington County Transportation Futures Study (WCTFS) by signing up to participate in an upcoming online open house.

Sign up for air quality alerts
The City of HIllsboro's wood smoke curtailment policy to reduce air emissions of PM 2.5 particulates is now in effect. Outdoor debris burning is prohibited year-round. Indoor wood burning is restricted on air quality advisory days through March 1, with some exceptions. The Washington County website updates its forecast each day, and you can sign up to receive air quality and wood burning alerts for "red days" via text, phone or email.
