Snow to Hit the North East

Winter Storm Jonas is expected to spread a swath of snow and ice, some of it heavy, from the Mid-South and Ohio Valley across the Appalachians and into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. The snow will begin in western parts of that zone Thursday night and may linger as late as Sunday along parts of the East Coast.

National Sleep Therapy
will be open for normal business hours on Friday, but may choose to close early if the driving conditions in the affected areas are unsafe.

If you need us, please call us at 888-867-8840 or send email to support@nstherapy.com. If you have a medical emergency, you are urged to call 911.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ
Please note that use of a CPAP or Bi Level machine is not considered "life support." However, should you experience a medical emergency in the event of a disaster, we strongly urge you to contact 911.

CPAP and BiLevel Machines are electrically powered.  If you want the device to operate during a power outage you will need an alternate power system, such as a generator or battery kit, until electrical power is restored.  We recommend you notify your power company and telephone company that you have medical equipment and ask that you be placed on a priority list for services to be restored. The power company may request a letter from your doctor to be placed on this list. We do sell battery kits and cables. You can use a 12V car or marine battery if you have the right cable to connect it to your device.

If your house operates from battery or generator power, you can use the PAP device with the humidifier full, but turned off. This will still give you some humidification and reduce your power usage to half.

If disaster strikes your community, you might not have access to food, water, or electricity for some time. By taking time now to prepare emergency water supplies, food supplies and disaster supplies kit, you can provide for your entire family.

Be sure to stock up on canned/non-perishable foods and water. Having an ample supply of clean water is a top priority in an emergency. A normally active person needs to drink at least 2 quarts (a half gallon) of water each day. You will also need water for food preparation and hygiene. Store at least an additional half-gallon per person, per day for this.
  • Have someone such as family or neighbors who will check on you if an emergency situation occurs.
  • Determine evacuation routes and alternatives.
  • Know where the water and/or gas shut off valves for your home are located
  • Know where your home insurance papers are located
  • Keep a cooler full of ice on hand to store medication if the inside of your refrigerator becomes warm.
  • Have a flashlight and extra batteries nearby for power outages. Keep extra blankets available in case the power goes out.
  • And don't forget to take your pets and service animals into account.
Thank you from the National Sleep Therapy team.
